Sadly, if my abusive step dad were still alive I absolutely can see him doing this

That’s far more than mildly infuriating. I’d consider this child abuse.

I hope this kid escapes this clearly toxic situation.

Pronouns are a basic part of language. Getting rid of them makes communication way harder. Unless you speak Spanish, I guess.

Spanish pronouns are used mainly in the plain.

(Side note: I thought the original quote was something like “the rain in Spain falls mostly on the Spaniards,” but I can’t find anything to support that. Only today did I even learn that it was from a song.)

Apparently, “The Rain in Spain.” (To be clear, I would not have known that before looking it up to verify the quote.)

The original lyric I was parodying was “the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.” (Which, again, I would have gotten wrong if I hadn’t researched it.)

edit: After a few minutes reviewing YouTube videos, apparently it was prose recited by the protagonist of “My Fair Lady,” the movie from which that song came. Eventually she gained confidence via that song.

I don’t know, I previously lacked context for the quote, but after watching a relevant video I realize I’ve seen a parody of it in Family Guy.

I was going to make a joke anti-pronoun sub where we just talk about whatever while refusing to use pronouns until I looked up the list of pronouns and saw how painful that would be.

That’s a well radicalised obedient party soldier who will stop at nothing once you point at an inconvenient target and say the right buzzwords. Real Jan6 material, just as planned and executed for decades.

Yeah this is peak reddit story telling. I can even see the top comment: this is MORE than mildly infuriating. That’s why it’s posted there, engagement farming

So is this bit about some delinquent fascist with dementia who was already president once up for bid again. Also, that when he don’t win, there will be a coup like when JFK was assassinated by the corporations that successfully sold it as being conducted by anyone else.

…and “bid” because let’s be real. The whole shebang is a fucking auction that has sold the fucking business of “Government” to the corporations respected by allowing them to STOP PAYING %78 IN TAXES.

JFK very explicitly pissed off the CIA when he fired a bunch of the Bay of Pigs hawks and failed to escalate with Cuba after the missile crisis.

Harris isn’t doing anything like that. She’s fully endorsed our militarism abroad and our police state at home.

If she catches a bullet, it’ll be for the same reason Trump nearly did - because he was sloppy with his security detail and they were phoning in their end of the job.

Left or right is irrelevant this is a person who follows propaganda without question. Both sides do exactly the same, and have fools who follow blindly.

I swear, I’ve been thinking there’s nothing from the US that can surprise me anymore, but this did get me.

How can there be no-one there in any position of power to ask “wtf are you doing”?

The thing that really gets me about this story is it was an ESL School. The students were mostly adults learning to speak English. Not only should an ESL school understand the English language well enough to know what a homophone is, homophones are an extremely important concept for non-native English speakers because that kind of word can cause lexical confusion.

This teacher was fired for doing his job correctly.

Yeah, none of it makes sense. Why would any teacher not immediately file a lawsuit, unless they’re not a teacher and they’re trying to drum up “engagement”? But hey, just like the story in the OP, no need to ask questions because it jibes with my point of view!

Homophobes? Pronouns? SEEMS one sided to me.

      Teach the kids Heterophobes too.

Give both sides: pro-nouns and pro-verbs.

Stop with this culture war in our SCHOOLS.

“may see the ‘homo’ side and think it has something to do with gay sex.”

Better not let him see assume, class, bass (ironically a homophone) or many other words with such scandalous suffixes lol
