I just talked about this topic with a few friends and family members and they all cringed in response. Every. Single. One.

If you’re writing with a wooden pencil, the graphite snaps out, and the wood of the pencil drags across the paper.

Just writing this made my skin crawl.

I love mechanical pencils. If you still wanna pencil, check out mechanical ones. There are loads of good options out there, including ones that spin the lead with each stroke to keep a consistent sharpness and ones where the lead is suspended via springs so it doesn’t break as easily, as well as ones with retractable lead sleeves so the lead and the metal pipe at the end don’t break when you move it around.

I’ve avoided wooden pencils my entire life because of it. I love the ultra-fine 0.3mm graphite with a retractable sleeve, like you suggested. It’s funny that I’m fine with scratchy graphite on paper, but hate scratchy wood on paper.

I equally love and hate writing on a hard desk with a single sheet of the shittiest loose leaf paper known to man with a wooden pencil.

I hate it because it fucking sucks, but I love it for nostalgia and for a like 15% sensory thing that actually feels nice sometimes, but 85% of the time it fucking sucks.

More of a sound than a texture TBH, but the way certain types of styrofoam squeak against cardboard boxes legitimately sets my teeth on edge.

I have to pull bags of dextrose off a pallet some days, and the sound/feeling is the worst version of this. I dread it whenever it comes up, it’s impossible to avoid the squeak.

Something has happened that has etched the rim of some of our water glasses, and they’re unbearable now. I was just looking up the other day whether this is something I can fix with sandpaper or something. It seems like the answer is “maybe,” and it involves a lot of PPE, so for now I may just stick the etched ones at the back of the cupboard.

The sound of a permanent marker used on cardboard makes my teeth itch. I know it’s not a texture but I can sure feel it.

Yea, same. It’s the granularity of the micro-roughness in both materials that does it for me. Same as brushed metal

Same! It’s lessened over the years, but there’s still something about that sound that makes my teeth itch. The absolute worst were those huge permanent markers with metal bodies that smelled like chemical warfare.

I highly prefer wood floors, so long as it is sealed and finished wood, but I’ve worked as a handyman for many years and have developed a deep and personal hatred for all forms of laminate flooring.

Wooden cooking utensils that have been washed a bunch or raw wood popsicle sticks or those little wooden spoons that come with ice cream cups, all genuinely revolting 🤮

Cheap acrylic sweaters/yarn is also pretty bad

The spoons… I always die inside a little when I see these out in the wild. Some food trucks around here use them and similar wooden forks. Even thinking about them gives me so much discomfort ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ

Add clarinet reeds to that. That feeling of wood against teeth… great, now I’ll have shivers down my spine all day from thinking about it.

I’m with you. Jeans are the worst for me. They’re heavy and stiff, and depending on how intense my sensitization is that day, the waistband can feel like anything from rough cardboard to sandpaper against my skin. Adding a belt makes it even worse.

I’m grateful my employer lets me wear loose-fitting athletic pants in the office. A coworker and I were talking about it recently, and he couldn’t understand why I dislike jeans because they’re his favorite pants. Clothing that feels perfectly comfortable to most people usually feels restrictive, heavy, and abrasive to me. If robes were culturally acceptable as everyday wear in the west, I’d wear them constantly.
