$15.40, Washington at $16.28 and California at roughly $16

“Roughly $16”? Is there something beyond cents that makes California’s new minimum wage hard to state clearly?

Certain counties have different minimum wages. So it’s difficult to give a hard number for the state. But they’re all in the neighborhood of $16

Sure, but what is the minimum? Do counties get to undercut the state minimum wage? If so, what good is the state minimum wage? There is some minimum.

It varies by county and also by profession. $16 is bare minimum, counties can’t go lower. Most counties are $16 and change, some as high as $19. Specifications for higher minimums are made in some counties for hotel workers and businesses on hotel grounds. https://www.pacificpayrollgroup.com/blog/california-state-local-minimum-wage/

The minimum wage in California, effective January 1, 2024, is $16.00/hour for all employers. Fast Food Restaurant employers, effective April 1, 2024, and Healthcare Facility employers, effective June 1, 2024, will have a higher minimum wage. Starting April 1, 2024, all “fast food restaurant employees” who are covered by the new law must be paid at least $20.00 per hour.

It applies to only certain jobs. There’s some variance in CAs minimum wage depending on if you’re a tipped server, fast food worker, or something else.
