Certain counties have different minimum wages. So it’s difficult to give a hard number for the state. But they’re all in the neighborhood of $16

Sure, but what is the minimum? Do counties get to undercut the state minimum wage? If so, what good is the state minimum wage? There is some minimum.

It varies by county and also by profession. $16 is bare minimum, counties can’t go lower. Most counties are $16 and change, some as high as $19. Specifications for higher minimums are made in some counties for hotel workers and businesses on hotel grounds. https://www.pacificpayrollgroup.com/blog/california-state-local-minimum-wage/
