I wonder if firing him could be the breaking point triggering a coup or if it’ll need a bit more escalation before.
I think that’s very likely given that he refused to quit and they still haven’t managed to fire him yet. This implies that military is backing Zaluzhny and that there’s a growing rift between the civilian government and the military now. I can’t imagine that Zaluzhny is just sitting on his hands while this is happening. He’s likely consolidating support from the top military brass under himself right now, and once Zelensky tries to officially fire him, that’s when the coup could get under way.
So he’s firing him this weekend supposedly?
Seems like he already tried to fire him and Zaluzhny refused, so we’ll see what happens next.
AFAIK he wanted Zaluzhny to resign on his own accord, perhaps so it doesn’t look like Zelensky fired him. Allegedly Zaluzhny told Zelensky to fuck off, stating that if he wanted to dismiss him he’ll have to do it. Zelensky, it appears, does not want to give the order himself to avoid bad PR.
That was my understanding as well.
