It’s not “slipping away.” Slipping away assumes they had a chance in the first place. lol
This. They could not have come close to having even a tiny chance of victory on the battlefield, and the US knew it all along.
It’s like saying “the fish you’re after is slipping away!” when you’re at the beach with nothing but a fishing rod in your hand, the fish is 100 km from the coast line and the fish, it turns out, is a fucking 30-ton blue whale.
They could have had peace two years ago but the same kind of people writing this article with their tail between their legs thought it was possible for a corrupt country like Ukraine to win against Russia. Now it’s full capitulation or nothing at all.
I really hope that it will eventually dawn on Ukrainians how the west cynically used and then discarded them like a used condom.
Reminds me of a meme with a dude on the gallows with a noose: “First time?” That dude is the Kurds
ha
Western mainstream opinion operates on an eight month time delay I see
Gotta give them props for managing to keep the alternate reality bubble stable for that long though.
120+ years of mastering the art of propaganda. Gotta give the West credit where it’s due - it is THE thing they are good at - projections, lies, omission of facts and half-truths.
Plenty of people still believe Russia failed miserably if Reddit’s anything to go by
Yup, the narrative is starting to crack now in the media, but there’s still a lot of inertial from people having internalized the propaganda over the past two years. This is also leading to some hilarity where libs are starting to claim outlets like NYT and WSJ Russian propagandists.
I expect it’s going to take a decisive defeat of Ukraine for people to really start accepting that Russia won the war. I imagine the cope at that point will be that the west didn’t give enough to Ukraine at the start of the war. A lot of people are simply never going to accept the idea that Russia beat NATO here.
They can’t even accept their loss to Vietnam and Afghanistan
American exceptionalism is a hell of a drug
People on tiktok too. They’re convinced Russia can barely hold off a “second rate” army like Ukraine that once NATO steps in its all over, easy peasy. You just know that once a draft hits these mother fuckers are running for their lives.
Gotta slow walk admitting it was just a fire sale on used military hardware or people are gonna be pissed we lit trillions of dollars on fire while people can’t afford groceries and rent.
The whole stalemate narrative fell apart pretty quick I gotta say.
would be interesting to put together a timeline of the narrative shift in the large outlets
As I recall the shift started after it became clear that Ukrainian offensive failed, we had a few months where they were trying to sell a frozen conflict after that, and now we’re finally transitioning to the acceptance phase of grief where they’re admitting that Russia is winning.
I’m also curious if they go back and edit some of the articles after the fact, not because I know that is done, but because that’s what I would do if I was them
like that english general during WWI keeping two diaries while he fed hundreds of thousands of young men into the meat grinder, one for him and one for posterity
it’s a bit harder to do cause of the internet archive, sometimes they will go edit or cut stuff, but that runs the risk of triggering Streisand effect making the situation even worse.
Thing is, I don’t they care about the Streisand effect. Remember when it came out that Merkel had no intention to actually follow Minsk agreement and it was just a ploy to pump weapons into Ukraine? It wasn’t met with stress or displeasure. It was met with “Yes, it is a great idea, it was a correct course of action, they should have send more weapons”
They don’t care as long as they can control the narrative which relies on majority of people having fairly strong confidence in mainstream media. We’re now seeing this confidence collapsing. For example, WSJ editor in chief moans about the problem here
And as it’s becoming increasingly clear that the west lost the war, people are naturally starting to question why the media has been telling them everything is going great for the past two years. On top of that, people are starting to connect the war with the decline in their own material conditions. This is why we’re seeing massive riots across Europe happening. Everybody was told that they just had to suck it up for a little while, and in the end Russia would be defeated, and things would be great. Now people see that their lives got ruined for nothing.
And it just keeps getting worse. Now you have countries like Germany and Britain telling people there might be a draft cause Russia is so strong and scary. So, the opposite of what was promised has been achieved. The whole premise was to make Ukraine fight the war for the west and weaken Russia. Now the west finds itself in a situation where Ukraine is collapsing, and Russia is stronger than ever.
My expectation that we’ll be seeing a collapse of confidence both in the western regimes and their propagandists happening over the next few years.
the EU, in reaction to reality seeping through the cracks in their propaganda, has decided to double down on this shit though.
when even the US is trying to quietly drop this shit and pivot to israel, the EU just keeps hitting itself in the face with a hammer. WHY? WHY?
