They’re most-known for their massive gas stations (like 100+ pumps and 75,000 square-foot store) with overpriced food and gift shop. Some of their older, smaller stations South of Houston are more typical gas stations with 8-10 pumps, but they’re known for the flagship stores. They also famously prohibit 18-wheelers.

I’ll give them credit for what they do well. Their restrooms are generally spotless. They’ll have multiple people who’s entire shift is spent keeping the restrooms stocked and clean. And they pay better than most gas stations, though my understanding is that it’s still a shitty place to work.

And that’s about it on the good. There’s a CVS-receipt list of ways they’re shitty.

What I don’t understand is their gas pricing. They’re usually the cheapest gas around by a significant margin, which itself makes sense if they’re trying to use cheap gas to get people to go inside and buy a 10 dollar sandwich. But they don’t typically post their gas prices. Their 100-foot sign is just their logo, and you won’t see the gas prices until you get to the pump. The price alone won’t get people to the store. They could charge more than other places and most people wouldn’t notice.

It’s funny you say that, I stopped at a buccee’s for the first time and found it underwhelming. Wawa, Sheetz, Royal Farms are all better because you can customize your food. The only thing buccee’s is is bigger.

Like 20 wawa gas stations put together, half of it is a gift shop, and it stinks like brisket.

my job is across the street from Buc-ee’s and it just looks miserable to go there. Always a line of cars no matter the hour, and overcrowded inside the store. I would never go through that much effort to visit a overpriced gas station.

Texan here. Buccees is WILDLY overrated. Their food used to be really good but they’ve apparently cut costs on it and now are no better than any other fast food place. They’re just a glorified, gimicky gas station. Restrooms are always clean though.

They seem like the weird fixation people have here in the northeast about Wawa and Sheetz. People, they are just shitty convenience stores with gas pumps. Relax!

Its funny to think of PA as being northeast. I guess so but in the norther easter, we don’t have anything but Cumbies, 7/11s, and Circle Ks and they’re shit.

          Cumbies

          I prefer Cum Farm, tyvm.

Weird hearing about Circle K though. Never heard of one for 12 years while living in MD, then saw them everywhere down in Florida. Don’t recall ever seeing a Circle K in states around MD either. 7/11 is pretty ubiquitous, however in FL they always had gas pumps and in MD it was just a corner store. It’s so weird how much it can vary from region to region, and sometimes even by bordering states.

Circle Ks are dying and 7/11 almost did in the 90s and now it’s only a straggler in a few towns up here.

There are new replacements but they aren’t memorable enough to bother learning the names of.

The thing is the bar for gas stations to be great is so low that when one puts in any amount of effort, everyone loves it. It seems every region has their favorites.

The defense attorney said the cases involve “many thorny legal issues” and one question in particular: “May a homeowner install a camera in his home without telling housekeepers or guests, or does the guest have a greater legal right than the homeowner?”

How the hell is this a thorny legal issue? It should not be a question at all.

It’s one thing to have a doorbell camera or a security camera inside that films your front door and foyer or living room. It’s another thing entirely to have a hidden camera in the bathroom.

Yes, and even then it’s basic courtesy to warn your guests, and it should be illegal to not notify your tenants/homekeepers of the camera (at least in my country it is, and it’s illegal to install them in any living quarters - including the bathroom -)

Another thorny legal issue for republicans:

Do the “human rights” of black slaves trump the property rights of their owners? And how are you supposed to protect your economic rights other than by beating the shit out of them?

Do the “privacy rights” of guests and tenants trump the property rights of their landlords? And how are you supposed to protect your economic rights other than by recording their every move on your property?

It’s basically the same fucking question. And it’s such a thorny and contentious one finding a balance must be hard.

Because in a sane society, basic human rights clearly do not have precedence over any other rights, right?

Now that the new states are blue, maybe they can remove the infestation with some new public-serving regulations.

My wife got hired at the one in NW Florida. After she told me the employee rules I told her she’d be very damned sorry to take the job. I’ve never even heard of such a foul employer.

It’s so bad that while she did paperwork and training, the HR team was non-stop rocking the phone begging people they had hired to come back in. She never went back.

They’re neat stores, but they’ve earned a lifetime boycott from me.
