To be honest, I’ve never understood the hatred for Comic Sans. It’s not especially ‘professional’, but not everything has to be.

Convention. “Back in my day,” memes were made mostly in MS Paint or MS Word. With MS Word, impact was the default font for an out-of-box variety of Word Art. Since it worked well for the task and was easily accessible, it became a common choice, then a ubiquitous component of the “meme” format.
I feel a little self conscious what font to use for modern memes, impact is easy in so many ways
