This could be a failure on the part of the driver, but my god I hate those inexcusably giant pickup trucks that fit nowhere no matter how “good” a driver you are. They always stick out and cut of walkways, bicycle paths… they are simply too big. So oversized as to be generally dysfunctional.

I have to drive a large van for work that is too long to fit in a parking spot. If i have to park it in a lot I always find 2 spots so I can pull through and not block the lanes. Yes it sucks it takes up 2 spots but we genuinely need the space this van provides. I wish others would have a little more accountability and courtesy when parking. Nothing baffles me more than the lifted crew cab f350 taking up 2 handicap spots and they even have a handicap tag.

The funniest part to me is that i drive a big ass bus for work. It’s the best car i ever owned. Fun to drive, easy to drive, you almost sit on the front wheels, and even if you can stand in the back and load something that is 3m long, it still fits every normal small european parking spot. These fuckers can’t hold shit in their silly trucks, but still can’t fit in the same spots as me.

Depending on where you live the cops might!

In many places in the world this can be reported, and the results can range from calling the owner to tell them to move, all the way to towing the car with a nice fine.

When I see this I always call, sure, I might be able-bodied and can walk past it. but honestly, what if someone with a wide wheelchair or anything similar can’t get past it?

This is just pure selfishness on the driver’s side, so I selfishly call the cops on them 🤷

I have been considering this but don’t have enough patience. The cops in my town don’t care. They might even yell at me for wasting their time.

However they do seem to collect data on calls and eventually respond to what it seems like people want. I think it would take getting to the end of the year and having some data analyst say “look how many calls we got about cars blocking the sidewalk. We need to do something”

When I call the cops to report dangerous driving, half the time the dispatch doesn’t even seem to care, “oh only going 30 over? Is that about the flow of traffic? Well it isn’t illegal to pass on the double yellow even if it was kind of tight. If you’re backing up traffic by doing the limit you could probably speed up a bit to make it safer”.

Get out of the fast lane on a road that only has 1 lane in each direction? Yes i mean drivers using an oncoming lane to pass instead of waiting a few minutes for the passing lanes that come every couple of kilometers.

Irresponsible vehicle use should probably primarily lead to the vehicle getting impounded, but due to actively hostile leadership, this is unfortunately unlikely to happen.

Until then - did you know that placing a lentil within the cap of the tyre valve and then screwing on the cap causes the tyre to deflate?

What do you want them to do, unlock and get back in the car, restart it, put it in reverse, reverse a couple feet, put it in park, and shut the car off before having to close the door and lock it again?!

My guy, they already got out of the car, like… 🤷‍♀️

Is there naming conventions for various side walks. Like this here appears to just be an island surrounded by road, so no pedestrian ever would be on it outside of driving their car to it. The actual side walks leading to the buildings usually run down to the main streets.

For an example I highlighted a terrible for pedestrian building near me, where purple is where you would normally have walking paths, and yellow is where someone would put a “sidewalk” like the one in the original post.

I think the intent with this centered walkway is to provide somewhere that people can push their cart to their trunk without being in a car lane of the lot. This works best if they back into the spot. Some people back into a more normal set of spots then have less space at their trunk if someone pulls in behind them. These can be especially useful near stores that sell larger items as the customers would need more space to load.

If you look close, I don’t think there are any sidewalks anywhere. Pain in the arse. Its about 5 miles to the nearest grocery store for me, think the nearest side walk starts around 4 miles in. Sucks, but it was a small town that blew up I guess but they never invested in decent infrastructure.

When I lived in Panama City Beach before I moved here a few years ago I walked everywhere except work. Grocery stores, bars, etc. averaged around 22,000 steps a day. I may average around 4,000 here. (Note I worked a sit down job when I lived there as well)

Aka yeah, infrastructure and location impact my health greatly.

Edit: come to think of it I actually stopped to help a construction worker putting new sidewalks on front beach road at one point. His workers slacked off and left early for the day. Asked if he needed help and he threw me $100 for 2 hours of work and told me if I came back he’d pay me to be their manager. I was already employed elsewhere so I turned him down, but it was a unique experience for me.

It could be worse. Here recently was a bus(!) parking in a car parking slot. At the front, it 2/3 cut off the mixed pedestrian and bike way, and the rear it blocked half of the road.

Every single car in my apartment’s parking lot is like this. There’s maybe an inch of sidewalk to actually walk on around the entire perimeter of the complex 😬

A few of them also make tripping hazards with their fat as fuck EV charging cables strung out from their porch area instead of using the charging area intended for that.

Always carry a box of nails in your car. Then, when you see this, place it just under his tire. So when he backs up, he punctures his tire. You could even use 4 nails. One for each tire. Or, even more evil, only 3. He’ll still have to pay for the 4th tire replacement, even though nothing is wrong with the 4th tire.

I’ve posted this before. What’re you’re talking about doing is destruction of property. It’s a crime. Just go to your local auto parts store, buy yourself a tire valve remover, and just keep it in your car. You can just unscre the valve and flatten the tire, and if you’re feeling nice, replace it or just leave it on the ground.

Well, if you know how tires work, all you do is put air back in, when they’re slashed you’re responsible for, on a car like that, 300$ a tire. Removing the valve is an inconvenience, but slashing is money and time.

You realize this is the type of person parking halfway in a sidewalk right…? And you want to rely on their capability to notice a pull that could be their vehicle out of alignment instead…. Which can still lead to a situation where an innocent bystander is killed by your absolutely moronic decision to deflate someone’s tire.

This isn’t about OUR capability, but the capability of the people’s vehicles you are vandalizing.

But obviously someone who can’t comprehend how both of the situations are BOTH vandalizing wouldn’t be smart enough to know that either I guess…

People like you are everything wrong with this world, be better, and don’t need an ass when called out, there’s only one dick in this exchange, and you need to look in the mirror to see it.

That’s a funny childish fantasy and all, but you really shouldn’t attempt potential murder over a fucking parking. You know damn well that idiots like this don’t check their tires before heading out on the road, so they’re going to endanger themselves and others because you tried to make a point or something?

Just leave a note if you want to send a message to them. They’re going to be mad about the note, dismiss it and excuse themselves, but… they’ll still have to think about it, which is a better result than any potential outcome of secretly destroying their tires, which from their point of view will be completely unrelated to their previous parking.
