This shit is incredible. He used to tone it down when he wasn’t speaking directly to his base, but he came out of the gate with post birth executions. Now we’re onto Haitians eating cats and dogs, wtf?

It would be great if the hosts stopped giving him the floor every time he interrupts Harris and the hosts.

I think that’s actually beneficial. It allows him to lie again, the moderators to fact check, and then Kamala to respond again. He looks dumb and flustered right now.

It makes him look bad to reasonable people, but it also let’s him bluster his way through more and more lies that the brainwashed fox news folk will eat up and consider it him “dominating” over Kamala. Cut the fucking mics ABC, Jesus.

Kamala and co purposely allowed open mics because he polled much more poorly when he whines over the open mic constantly

The issue wasn’t that the mics were open, it’s that his wasn’t open during her responses and she would be cut off from responding to his lunatic interruptions. Still made him look bad, but true open mic debate would’ve been way worse for himz

Muting him, correcting the lie, and moving on would be far better than letting him interrupt and ramble about immigration for the 1000th time.

Then the complaint is that he’s not given a chance to speak. Facts and reason didn’t get us into this mess and they won’t get us out either. At this point we have to hope for a McCarthy moment where the spell just collapses. Letting him ramble brings that closer.

Cool, so pander to the weird jackass while shutting down Harris the ONE time she tried to interrupt.

Giving him time to ramble is just giving him time to pander to his base and acting like it is a reasonable thing to do at a debate. Anyone who watched his allotted time had plenty of time to see him ramble, he didn’t need EXTRA time.

Trump has been the wildcard and basically gone against every norm for someone running for office. In 2016 that was more unexpected and the electorate had a clear anti-establishment candidate they could get behind (even though he lost the popular vote).

I think the trick has worn off and we now know how to deal with his antics, plus he’s aged and less coherent. Also he was the establishment for 4 years, and can’t be the wildcard candidate he once was.

I think Vivek Ramaswamy was trying this playbook during the Republican primaries but failed to account for the cult of Trump and the racism in the party. Maybe it would have worked against someone who wasn’t a former president or if Trump was sent to prison sooner.

Yeah, I think I have 30m to 1h left. I started late to watch at 2x speed but I honestly think that made it more stressful. Hearing Trump’s bullshit at twice the frequency is really annoying. I can imagine how Harris felt. She’s handled it well from what I’ve seen, but does that move the needle? Is anyone who was considering Trump or abstaining really going to be bothered by the total bullshit? I hope so, but we’ll have to wait and see.

I only watched the beginning, kind of hopeless that people might think he did well. I didn’t even know kept to watch: just lie after lie, told with complete confidence, and without following any theme or logic.

At least when he repeated the thing about Haitians eating your pets: surely no one but hard core racists can agree with that, right?

I found it to be slightly better of a debate, if not for Harris’ reactions (but mostly because most debates are terrible). Watching Trump get baited all night was just, chefs kiss.

Looking at commentary afterwards though, man undecided voters have gotta be the least informed people on earth. Or the craziest. Or just unreasonably stupid.

Undecided voters are just right wingers who still have some shame, or have family that would cast them out for it if they found out.

They are waiting for Donny to say something close to acceptable so they can put on their blinders and latch on to it as a reason to vote for him.

What’s up with the misogyny, ABC? They keep letting Weird 34 have more and more time, talking over his limit, talking over the moderators, and talking over Harris. Sleepy DonOLD doesn’t respect women and what women gave to say, especially if they disagree with him to any degree.

One that threw me for a loop was Trump claimed Harris would perform transgender surgeries on illegal immigrants in prison, and according to this 2019 ACLU Survey response that was partially true:

“14. As President will you use your executive authority to ensure that transgender and non- binary people who rely on the state for medical care — including those in prison and immigration detention — will have access to comprehensive treatment associated with gender transition, including all necessary surgical care? If yes, how will you do so? Yes X No ⬜ Explanation (no more than 500 words): It is important that transgender individuals who rely on the state for care receive the treatment they need, which includes access to treatment associated with gender transition. That’s why, as Attorney General, I pushed the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to provide gender transition surgery to state inmates. I support policies ensuring that federal prisoners and detainees are able to obtain medically necessary care for gender transition, including surgical care, while incarcerated or detained. Transition treatment is a medical necessity, and I will direct all federal agencies responsible for providing essential medical care to deliver transition treatment.”

Transgender people in the justice system can be impacted by negative mental health by their body type or perceived societal judgement.

If medical health professionals believe it would benefit their mental health to a place that could give them the positive self image enough to properly exist within our society? Maybe worth it.

Justice system should be about reform not punishment

That’s cool, I didn’t know that. I’m not totally on board with that type of care, but I’m neither a medical professional nor someone who would be involved. If the best medical opinion is that it’s necessary …. When we take away someone’s rights and send them to prison, that makes us responsible for their human rights, including medical treatment
