Me and the gang just hanging out

House is clean. Time for dinner and some relaxing time. Tomorrow and Monday are study time for the Tuesday interview. For the IT folks, it’s API’s and SQL this time.

Don’t tell my kids, but I don’t really want to get up at 7:30 on a Saturday to go and watch them play hockey. I’m tired, it’s cold, wet and I’m not really having fun.

I might be getting my first new computer in 14 years later today, so I have something to look forward to.

It’s hard to believe that they have any bones at all.

If I tried to sleep like the cat does, I’d end up with backache for the next century.

Spent this morning redoing my resume, and have now sent two applications with cover letters. I think that will do for today. Main part was ending the procrastination and actually sending out some applications. Feeling accomplished

Good onya, that’s not an easy thing to push through, but it feels so good once the initial inertia has been shoved out of the way. I need some of that energy with my chores today! Here’s hoping your efforts are rewarded with a better job very soon :)

My gonads have recessed and are shrivelled by the cool water of the plunge but they’ll drop back down with my voice, once I’ve earned it

Good luck ! The cover letters have been the hardest and most troublesome part for me.

How anyone can crank out and personalise more than one a day (let alone 20) is a complete mystery.

Lol don’t worry. I only just got around to having a shower and getting dressed, and I only did that because I have a visitor soon. If it wasn’t for him, I would still be in bed

It’s been a very slow start for me, if that makes you feel better! I have tons on next week so I knew I had to get some things done today or I’d be punishing my future self when she’s more tired and cranky.

I do this every time it comes up too. Stock up on inconvenient stuff I know I don’t need immediately but might as well get while I have free shipping. Stuff like a big roll of tough double sided tape suitable for outdoor use or copper tape for snails.

I bought a bunch of bulk foods that I’d otherwise have to run around town for and an instapot duo.

6 jars of marmalade made, 3 plants repotted, 1 load washing done and put away, another load in the machine

What do you typically have marmalade with, other than toast? Not having much of a sweet tooth, I can’t imagine how one gets through even a jar of marmalade in a reasonable time, let alone 6.

Topping for cheesecake, glaze for apple tarts, anywhere where the intense sweetness plus fruity tartness and a bit of bitterness makes a nice contrast. Marmalade can be melted, sieved and the liquid used as a sauce on vanilla icecream too. Adding a bit of arrowroot & water to the sieved liquid sets it to a firm gel, which goes pretty good as an icing substitute on a plain pound cake. A small spoonful of marmalade is a nice addition to a stir fry sauce too along with soy etc. Try it with cauliflower or broccoli. Bearing in mind that a jar of marmalade for toast only every day is usually gone in a week, so 6 jars will last maaaayyyybeee the worst of the winter.

oh yeah, it’s good in icing for carrot or banana cakes

my last jar in the batch has less peel and is more like jelly and that would definitely be good with desserts

just want to add I chopped and seeded about 100 cumquats to make 6 jars

I have returned from the Lightscape thing. I haven’t walked that far or up so many hills for… way too long. I am very sore.

Event was a nice family-friendly affair where we’re shuffled through the gardens like cattle. Some of it was kinda meh but other bits had really cool effects. Pretty great food and drink options. Not as blatantly expensive as it could have been for that stuff. I was there with my sister, bro in law and niece.

Pretty pricey tickets though. A little cheaper on a weeknight.

Yeah as a social event I think it’s worth it. If I went by myself I probably wouldn’t think so. It’s a cute couples/family thing, good memories together.

Ah, cool. Had a look and I don’t think it’s my vibe, but I might go sometime before it finishes. I think I’m keen to go to firenight, which seems to be in a similar vein, except it’s fire and free

The Docklands one? It’s pretty shit lol My apartment looks down on where it’s held and each year I pop down purely to say that I did but just keep your expectations real low.

It is indeed free so might as well check it out if you’re not doing anything, even just to say you did.

It was actually the first event I went to after moving to Melbourne. I went in 2019. I honestly liked it, but there’s probably some rose tint on my glasses.

But I’ll be going with a friend, so worst case we can always just spend the whole night shit talking the event and eating overpriced garbage food

    World Rainforest Day

World: from Proto-Germanic *weraldi-, a compound of *wer “man” (Old English wer, still in werewolf; see virile) + *ald “age” (from PIE root *al- (2) “to grow, nourish”).

Rainforest: apparently a loan-translation of German Regenwald, coined by A.F.W. Schimper for his 1898 work "Pflanzengeographie

Day: Old English dæg “period during which the sun is above the horizon,” also “lifetime, definite time of existence,” from Proto-Germanic *dages- “day” (source also of Old Saxon, Middle Dutch, Dutch dag, Old Frisian di, dei, Old High German tag, German Tag, Old Norse dagr, Gothic dags), according to Watkins, from PIE root *agh- “a day.” He adds that the Germanic initial d- is “of obscure origin.” But Boutkan says it is from PIE root *dhegh- “to burn” (see fever). Not considered to be related to Latin dies (which is from PIE root *dyeu- “to shine”).

Depressing weather. Have the fire going to get the washing dry. Discovered my shower is going mouldy. What is it with grout and silicon that we haven’t mould proofed it yet?

It’s gloriously sunny where I am right now and has been for a while. Woke up at 9am and indulged in some YouTube silliness in bed until 10:45 but pushing out the laundry quick smart now. Dont think everything will finish washing in time but I think some of it can dry over tomorrow as well. I have so much cleaning to do, might as well be when it’s sunny to help lift my mood.
