I thought it more about the pettiness of the expenses. I mean, someone whose truck needs repairs isn’t ‘less’ than other people, but many people who have their piece of junk in currently-working-condition regard themselves as currently far wealthier than they actually are simply because of the alleviation of that recurring expense.

I was a young manager in retail. There were rumblings of stores trying to unionize, and so here came the corpo antiunion videos and meetings. To this day, some 20 years later, I still hate myself for nievely playing those videos to my employees and not saying anything.
