Obviously this is a joke, but there used to be an important reason we kept the flags wrinkled like that: it meant that you never knew who had bought a flag at a Pride event and who brought one they owned.

This meant that people who were ‘caught’ at an event by friends or family they weren’t out to, they could say they just bought the flag to support the cause. It also meant there was no way to tell who had been there longer than others.

Beautiful reasons but there’s an easier one… we don’t want our flags to be straight (I only ironed my trans flag).

I do not really understand what you mean. What is the difference? If it is “okay” to buy a flag now to support the cause, why would it not be okay to have done so a year ago?

Also, sounds like this person would not hang the flag in their room, so the folding marks would be there anyway?

But keeping them unironed and non-“straight” seems pretty on brand.

Hang it on your shower curtain rod, run a hot water only shower to steam up the room and close the door.

PS: A “make out” session in the steamed up room while you wait for the flag to relax is a great way to not let all that steam go to waste.

Wash and dry it, then hang it up again. If it’s not washable, hanging it in a bathroom with a shower may help to steam the wrinkles out over time.

Is that safe for the plasticy synthetic ones? I’d try but I don’t want to melt or burn it.

What’s with the 3rd flag in the first picture? Just looks like an elongated falg of Romania or Chad. Or is it just a wish.com rainbow flag?

Do lots of people keep irons these days? I don’t have one or know anyone with one. Also the fact these flags are usually cheap as fuck synthetic materials that would literally melt if you ironed them. My actual cotton ones lost the creases on their own. The cheap plastic ones look like I just put them up today the creases are still that crisp.

I have a rainbow flag made from cotton, and it doesn’t wrinkle at all. Also, it’s like 3 meters wide

I’ve literally not met a single person who owns an ironing board under the age of 40, and since most of the Gen X I know were punks, even there it’s a very rare thing. I’ve personally only ever used one in hotels, because might as well since it’s there.

I’m 24 and I own one! Well, my husband brought it into the household when we moved in together. And he only owned one because is mother is an insane clean freak that will iron literally everything, even towels and socks/underwear.

We’ve used it 4 times in the past 5 years.

Personally I just iron on my floor when I’ve got a shirt that needs ironing

Yeah it’s not the best but it works in a pinch

I don’t own any flags myself, I only own pins. If I did own flags though I would iron them so they look nice.

I don’t really plan on getting them though unless I can find at least an AroAce flag in the purple and green color scheme. Which I haven’t up until now, technically I couldn’t find a pin either but pins are easy to get custom made, flags not so much (at least I never looked into it).
