As someone who used to shop at a Swear to God Piggly Wiggly in South Carolina, and watch the rednecks line up at the deli counter for fried bologna I DO NOT DOUBT OP.

Bologna seasoned with barbecue seasoning and slow smoked.

Fulfilling OPs promise: smoked bologna and smoked cream cheese are underrated and incredibly hard to screw up. They’re both delicious.

i mean smoked sausage doesn’t seem that weird to me, our “national sausage” is basically just this but with different (more subtle) spices (and they’re inside the sausage like normal) and probably smoked for a lot shorter.

I understand this lunch meat is known by many names across the globe (polony, Devon etc) but I feel like people from Bologna would be pretty livid hearing that their city’s name is being used to describe it. The people from Devon less so …

Baloney is probably fine, bit different from naming it after one of the gourmet food capitals of italy. baloney seems pretty similar to what we call it here in Western Australia (polony).

People pay premium for poop coffee. I think mayo is much more disgusting than this tbf, and people love it. Let people enjoy their weird taste and never eat at someone else’s house

I don’t know about blooming, but I had a smoked balogna sandwich at a local BBQ restaurant a little while back and it was actually delicious! I have always hated balogna, but tried it when it was refommended by the owner. According to the chef the trick was using a high quality balogna.

I’ve seen YouTube recommend a video about smoked bologna, not bloomin’ style though.

Maybe it’s worth a shot next time I’m doing a cook so I’m not betting my dinner on it but can still try.
