From Wikipedia: According to Serebriakova, the winter came early in that year, there was a lot of snow, but it was warm in the house, so “she started to paint herself in the mirror, entertaining by drawing different small things from her dressing-table”.

Here’s a great video describing the context of the painting and Zinaida’s rather tragic life that followed this happy moment.

      That’s what I was thinking. I had to look around the room at some of the objects (like the candle holders up front) to realize it’s from on older time.

    oh yayyyy! someone else watches the Art Deco channel… i saw this a couple days ago. it’s a warm painting that draws you in. glad to see it here. 😄
