It’d be so cool to understand more about the people who lived in Teotihuacan. Neat insight by the researchers here, I hope it pans out.

"Dr. Lau decided to move her medical practice to Oregon and saw no reason to continue to maintain her Texas license,” according to a statement provided by her attorney Craig Smyser. “Dr. Lau continues to deny the Texas Attorney General’s politically- and ideologically-driven allegations.”
Reactionary morons are doing everything they can to destroy the tatters of our healthcare system in Texas.
Truly the worst Americans.

Oh, for sure.
That’s what I like most about it: it feels almost crazy by the end to try to be optimistic about the future of humanity.
But it is anyway.
It’s easy to be defeatist; being optimistic is a subversive act.

It literally does grant freedom from consequences of government actors for protected speech.

Reactionary nonsense from a class traitor.

Oh, sherrif is an elected position in Tennessee.
So other christofascist nutjobs.

I hate the word, but I’ll make an exception when Ripley says “get away from her, you bitch” to the alien queen.

This is an extremely reductive way of looking at the issue.
You have no idea who that priest is or what sect he’s a part of. The only thing I know for sure is that he opposes these fascist freaks enough to get out and protest them.
I’m an atheist myself, but I bet I have far more in common with this priest than a “fellow atheist” like the current president. The only thing you’re doing here is driving a wedge between allies on the left based on your preconceptions.
A priest being attacked by the fascists sends a message to other religious people. Without allies (yes, even Christian ones) and solidarity the left is doomed.

Oh I understand why they have guns, which is a big part of why I said they shouldn’t have them.
Agreed though that they’re looking to escalate as hard as possible. That’s what police riots are all about.

Absolutely. I’ve not read 2312, because it’s another of his books that I won’t be able to look forward to.

Yup!
The cable wrapped it’s way around the equator.

I can’t believe I put off reading this one as long as I did. It’s an incredible piece of fiction that, like you said, changed the way I think about history and storytelling.

It does have one of the coolest moments in all sci-fi though, where
the rebels crash a moon into the planet as a form of direct action

I couldn’t get enough of them, myself.
I actually love that people enjoy different things though. How boring would life be if everyone liked the same stuff?

I’ve heard that some people just can’t get into them, which is fair enough, but I cannot relate.
I agree though that he’s not everybody’s cup of tea. I’m the same with Alastair Reynolds, even though it seems to be just what I’d like.

I’m going to assume the piggies didn’t identify themselves before trying to kidnap this guy, since that’s their MO.
Also:
With the agents fearing Parias could hit them with his Camry or dislodge it from between their vehicles, one opened fire, prosecutors said. Parias was struck in the elbow, and a deputy marshal was hit in the hand, according to prosecutors.
Fuckin’ idiot shot another cop. These morons shouldn’t have guns. And nice passive voice in the article there, too.

I generally prefer movies, books, or video games over a TV show. There are exceptions, but there’s just a lot of filler on TV shows; even good ones.

I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.

Maybe the National Review should stop the dick riding and lying then?
We played Quake World Team Fortress on the high school LAN. It blew my mind.
