Hate to say it. I’ve seen a bit of instability for the last two days. Same thing. Site will hang. My login session gets dumped. It doesn’t happen a whole lot or last for long.

Occasionally a page won’t render. It’s hard to tell what’s going on there, and I tend to think its trying to render an expired page. A full refresh fixes it, so I figure its a symptom of the login session getting dumped.

I’m on vacation with little to do, and I’ve certainly used lemmy heavily lately. Mostly firefox, sometimes jerboa. I probably couldn’t stress the server out by myself, but I am certainly using it. I’m also building out storage subnets and vlans on my network, so any network issues I see could be self-inflicted. I’m about to go reset my router after my last mistake. :]

It’s still better than it was when I originally reported issues.

Site was down for a couple minutes straight right after i posted this. At first, no response. Then 404. Then it was all back.

If you want to grep your logs 21:36:01 (pacific time zone) Thu 04/10/2025

This is a bit more of just an impression, but eviltoast pages usually load quick, but right now (15 minutes after the outage) you can watch them draw. The frame draws, holds a sec, and fills in w text. Looks like lag of some sort.

      Thanks for letting me know!

I have run into the session issue. It seems worse than before, but I haven’t figured out what exactly is causing it. I use Traefik as the main reverse proxy and I suspect it’s something different there vs the normal nginx config lemmy recommends.

I restarted things for now, but I have a couple things to try tomorrow. Thanks for the timestamp btw, I was able to find an issue around that time and my monitoring triggered briefly around the same time too.

Until I migrate to new hardware (and away from the current setup that uses traefik), I decided to enable a CDN temporarily (bunny.net). It’ll retry requests transparently, so it won’t fix the issue but should make it less noticeable. Let me know if you notice either way.

This is silly. This should not matter. But I took down the site twice yesterday by clicking on that lemmy shitpost called “i had no idea y … was that powerful”. It’s a big thread. The site slowed, crawled, and then died. There’s nothing the matter with the thread itself. I was able to read it on lemmy.world. Took us out tho. I figure everything was already slow, and it just couldn’t handle 300 comments right at that moment.

Everything is running snappy right now. That post works fine. Pages are drawing quickly enough that I can’t see the render process in action. It’s normal now.

Thought I’d share … this community moved today. They had us check in, because sometimes comms don’t propagate properly. In short, eviltoast seemed to pick it up immediately.

Very cool, thanks for sharing! We’re set up on https://lemmy-federate.com/ so hopefully that is part of what triggers it to pick up new communities faster. There’s basically a bot user that will subscribe to new communities automatically, as long as they’re from another community set up there.
