Gail Simone on her disappointment of the canceled Wonder Woman game she was a consultant for: “The game was gorgeous and expansive. Every effort was made to make this not just a great game, but a great Wonder Woman game”
No talk about gameplay? Was all their money spent on looks?
I am guessing the gameplay was actually fairly good and not grindy, dlc filled, live service slop like kill the justice league BECAUSE WB cancelled it
Kill the Justice League, it’s art style and world is pretty attractive. Walking around the Hall of Justice, the details in various neighborhoods, it’s a nerd’s dream. I’m sure the art book is gorgeous.
Once you throw in the gameplay and all the special effects, it’s kind of a bore.
Maybe make a version of the game when you aren’t a superhero and just the cleanup crew that has to fix the city afterwards. Sweep up the halls of Justice, and buff that coffee stain out of the table all without special effects.
Before you get too upset, remind yourself that a lot of people involved in any AAA game will talk about how beautiful and authentic it was supposed to be.
Absolutely. Every person coming into any project wants it to be the best and succeed.
That energy fades after a while depending on leadership, execution, meddling from the top, bad project management, etc.
No doubt that the artistic concepts were going to be great during development. Everything else though probably wouldn’t have been as pleasant.
It reminds me of the 80s Wonder Woman movie: visually perfect. And a grand total of 2 minutes of fights in the whole movie.
Beautifully shot movie. Costumes were great. Amazing talent!
Don’t ask us about the story or execution though.
This would be AMAZING advertising campaign. Create fully completed game. Cancel that “almost finished” game. Developers take 2 month paid break with their only job being to seem like they’re out of work, and willing to do interviews with the press about the game. Then, hype up the game, talk shit about your employers, tell the media your employers made a huge mistake canceling that game. Readers get mad that this game got TAKEN AWAY from them. Company sees public outcry, and so they…release the game. Sales skyrocket.
Meanwhile all you really did was give your talented staff a break, and boosted your reputation with them about feeling valued. Used the media as free advertising, and made record profits while making the public feel that their outcry was heard. Thus improving your relationship with the customers.
OR AM I OVERTHINKING THIS???
One problem is people can’t keep secrets. This involves too many people who would have to keep the secret. And when it comes out that it’s just a marketing ploy, some portion of the customers would be even more upset.
