Tesla isn’t so much a car company as it is a carbon credits company that sells govt carbon credits to other car manufacturers. Other than that, SpaceX is basically fully funded by fed contracts and boring by state and municipal contracts.

Its not like he started Tesla or SpaceX anyway, they try to keep him as far away from operations as possible.
