I miss those, when I was small we had a local store that did that for all meat products. You just said X amount of bacon. Instead of buying a million separately packaged packs that barely last 1 family breakfast. Or well, going out of my way to hit up lidl, because they’re like the only ones selling bigger packs.
Now don’t get me wrong, butcher counters still exist, but they’re rare and many are expensive hipster shit.

Regular markets
You could really order just like 3 stalks of celery? They didn’t force you to buy the whole bunch?
Many markets used a barter system, some even used Silent bartering so it was pretty easy to purchase only what you wanted
