  • There are multiple possibilities.

    • The “man flu” phenomenon whereby a man with a minor illness is more likely to take a day off and rest while a woman with a minor illness is more likely to power through, with the lack of rest resulting in more neural plaque buildup

    • Some unexplored link between dementia and clinical depression, whereby the men most susceptible to depression are more likely to kill themselves in their youth and thus leave the elderly male population less susceptible to dementia overall

    • Men (at least in the generations that have reached old age) were more likely to cultivate hobbies in their youth which keep their minds active in old age whereas women were more likely to focus on friends and family who are less available as the years pass

It’s a code that Chinese internet users use to refer to Xi Jinping. Or at least they used to. The CCP caught on and now that phrase gets auto deleted off of Chinese websites. “Tiananmen, Winnie the Pooh” proves I’m not a Chinese AI, and “8647, Luigi Mangione” proves I’m not an American one. I’m not really sure what would prove I’m not a Russian one. “Fuck Vladimir Putin”?

None of the other countries of the world are going to risk making an enemy of America. Not so long as the American public makes it clear that more of them support Trump than don’t. Because right now, it seems like if Trump pressed the nuke button, nobody in a position to be able to stop him would be willing to do so.

  • If server code is released such that people can run private servers after the official servers are shut down, then legally the people running the servers should be the ones liable for illegal activity that happens on them.

I could imagine third-party companies springing up whose entire business model is JUST providing unofficial servers for discontinued games and moderating them. Maybe a subscription service that provides access to servers for several different online service games.

Of course, it would be more likely that it would be just a player who hosts a server for themselves and their friends and doesn’t attempt to be profitable. That would be fine too.

  • Nah. It’s like inflation - what was “good enough” in 2006 is underwhelming now. The Nolan Dark Knight trilogy and the Infinity Saga raised the bar and now audiences expect a superhero movie to be at least that good or it sucks. Most of the Multiverse Saga and the latter half of the DCEU would have been considered absolutely mindblowingly impressive in the 00s. Stuff like Aquaman, Black Adam, or Eternals would have compared very favorably to the kind of superhero movies we got in the 90s and 00s. Yes, that era had crackers too, but for every Blade you had a Blade Trinity; for every Spider-Man 2 you had a Spider-Man 3. For every Batman Begins you had a Batman & Robin. And the duds far outnumbered the classics.

So most modern superhero movies would have been considered amazing in that ecosystem. But we no longer have that ecosystem. There are so many superhero movies nowadays that it takes something really special to stand out from the crowd. Survival of the fittest has been dialled up to 11 and “ehhh, it’s OK” is no longer good enough for most audiences. Thor: Love and Thunder was “OK”. Blue Beetle was “OK”. But in the 2020s, “OK” means “not worth the ever-rising ticket price”
