Does anyone else remember the joy of going to a state fair, or local games market/festival/convention to gave their PS/2 modded to play international games? Anyone remember region locking?

    Fun times.

I can’t remember what I had to do to get modded firmware on my ps2 but I put a 80gb hard drive in it and everything was awesome.

Hell ya! I have a hard drive in mine too. There are definitely modchips on the market to get the hard drive to work, but the easiest way (and what I did) is to just use a memory card with some custom software on it called McBoot

You don’t need a modchip to get a HDD to work, you can flash the drive with FreeHDBoot and just plug it in to the PS2.

Also their emails always point out “if you feel this is a fraudulent purchase please call to cancel”

No real email receipts ever say that.

There’s a theory that it’s deliberate. People who immediately notice it require more effort to scam, whereas people who don’t are easier marks.

It’s kind of a shame. I take it as a sign of the times, with non-portable consoles slowly losing their grip on relevance. I think they’ll be around for a long time, but it would be terrible to witness the death of the console during my lifetime.
