    Yep diesel, battery and electric trains are all great in my view because they replace car and short distance plane travel which emits a lot.

    Some lines opt for battery electric because freight railroad owned lines have been very resistant to electrification due to high capital cost. Yet, to their investors they hold Operating Ratio as gospel, so it would seem like a smart business decision to begin catenary electrification plans in their busiest corridors, which would increase customer base due to reliability and speed increases, less noise complaints from locals, easing expansion, and lower operating cost from lower diesel consumption and longer necessary maintenence intervals.
