'If you want Donald Trump to win, then say that': Harris fires back at Gaza protesters at rally - eviltoast

I’m glad she’s finally saying it out loud.

Ew, this is not the dunk libs think it is. “Don’t protest our complicity in genocide or else you’ll lose democracy and freedom.”

Edit: Downvote all you want, libs. I run this server.

That’s not the dunk you think it is, and that’s why I love Lemmy. We can get our news from a plethora of other communities and instances. And what a way to follow your own rule: “Be respectful”.

Protesting is one thing but don’t constantly interrupt your only chance for a cease fire while they’re trying to convince uncommitted voters that they’re a better choice than Trump. Michigan is an overly important state with an embarrassing amount of the population on the fence and she needs to campaign on the things that matter to different people - not just one issue. Not to mention she’s still vice president and can’t exactly start shitting on Biden’s decisions

I am a pro-palestine anti-zionist and as much as I’d like a candidate that agrees and is outspoken, there’s way too much at stake here to demand she constantly addresses it. A cease fire in 6 months is better than a completed genocide

Israel killed the lead negotiator for the other side and the usa had done f all. There is no chance of a ceasefire because america and israel are not serious about it.

There are plenty of people oblivious to the fence’s existence, just like any other topic in the news. They are already on their side of the fence and assume everyone else is too.

Considering how AIPAC just destroyed two members of the squad it’s fair to acknowledge the reality of that statement.

I hope she does address the situation seriously. I desperately want the Gazan people to receive humanitarian aid and for the genocide to stop. But I’m also a geopolitical realist. There are limits to what can be done without making this or other situations worse.

So I expect whatever position Harris ultimately takes to both be decried as woefully inadequate and also an unconscionable betrayal of our commitments to our allies. Nothing short of a full-throated commitment to one side or the other will land outside that middle ground.

Not that protesting isn’t vital. I’m glad they got the chance to shout and get their moment of press over it, and I’m glad it didn’t derail her intended speech. Public awareness it’s important.
