Democratic billboards stress Trump link to rightwing Project 2025 manifesto - eviltoast

Billboards will go up in seven swing states as campaign seeks to publicize manifesto and tie it to ex-president

Democrats will put up billboards in swing states that show Donald Trump and tie him to Project 2025, a conservative manifesto that could become reality if he wins in November.

The Democratic National Committee’s paid media campaign escalates liberal efforts to publicize Project 2025 and tie it to the former president after he sought to distance himself from the plan. The blueprint for a second Trump administration is led by the rightwing thinktank the Heritage Foundation and counts support from more than 100 other conservative groups.

According to a plan first shared with the Guardian, 36 billboards in both English and Spanish will go up in nine cities in seven battleground states: Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Philadelphia, Green Bay, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Raleigh and Charlotte. They show Trump’s face alongside language such as “Trump’s plan to be a dictator on day 1: Project 2025. Google it” and say that the project “guts checks and balances, seeks revenge and bans abortion nationwide”.

I don’t think I could stomach being friends with fascists (even the ones who might not be aware that they’re fascists).

I get your point. But at the same time the first step to convincing someone of your own opinions isn’t to be an asshole. I’ve known these people since long before Trump was even campaigning for the first time. Is he wrong and kind of an asshole? Yes he is. He used to make fun of me for wearing masks during the pandemic. But at the end of the day we still bullshit and play online video games together all the time and go camping every year.

I’m not going to be able to change anybody’s opinion by insulting them and making them feel stupid. I’m going to treat them like people. Misguided people, but still people.

Republicans aren’t fascists, and far-right, tea-party, white supremacist nazis aren’t Republicans.

Granted, the latter took over the former - and are wearing them like a horrifying skin-suit - but my point stands.

Which party do they vote for again?

        They’re Republican.

Nobody “took over.” They just took the mask off.

        • The crazy people who vote for people with R next to their name aren’t voting for Republicans because of party loyalty. It just happens to be easier to get on a republican ticket while being a fucking insane person.

It doesn’t matter why. And regardless, check their voting history and I can guarantee you that the vast majority are red from top to bottom.

These people are dyed-in-wool Republican conservatives, and it says a whole lot about you that you want so bad to distance yourself from them.

Sounds like you’re better than your party and the ideals they stand (and vote) for.

            • my party? Are you assuming that I vote Republican? Right after calling their so-called candidates insane racists?

I think it says a lot about you that you assume that wanting to clarify that fascists aren’t real Republicans means that I’m defending the term because I am one myself.
