Yes, Hinduism is polytheistic. There is a hierarchy of the gods to a certain extent and depending on your sect the most important god can vary a little.
Though I suspect that this is just a translation issue. The interview is in Hindi( I think). I am guessing that the person who wrote the article was writing it for a American/British audience. They probably just decided to use the word god because it was easier and conveyed the messages better the intended audience.
