Can I help migrants as a musician? - eviltoast

Hello!

I was just approached by a man with a guitar that needed a new string. He is a migrant and was offering to sell me this guitar, but I didn’t have the money to. When I asked if he knew how to play he said he didn’t. I apologized that I couldn’t buy his guitar but I suggested if he learned a few chords, it may help him get money as a busker (I used to make between $50-$100 playing guitar for 3 hours or so).

I wish I offered to give free lessons but I didn’t think about it at the time, but I’m wondering if there are any organizations that I could reach out to to help teach music. I know it’s not the most practical skill for a lot of migrants to the city, but I think being able to play music can be a boost for them if not economically, then emotionally as they (hopefully) settle into their new lives as Chicagoans.

Anyone know of any organizations that I can help with?

~I personally feel like our attitude to the migrant crisis is different than down south as it seems we want to get them set up for success in our city vs just kicking them out.~
