TOKYO – Japanese manga artist Akira Toriyama, famous around the world for the “Dragon Ball” series and “Dr. Slump,” among other works, died on March 1, publisher Shueisha Inc. has announced.

    As someone that has been a fan of his work for close to thirty years, I’m absolutely gutted. Whether you like Dragon Ball or not, you’d be a fool to not recognise the significance of what he had created, including work like Dr Slump and his work on Chrono Trigger. It’s also sad that he has died without seeing the reaction to his latest work, so hopefully Toyotorou can continue his legacy.
