Yes, because that was before the Republican party became enshittified by Goldwater’s Southern Strategy. Those same people who fought for social change back then would be Democrats now.
I love the irony when Republicans try to claim they’re the party of Lincoln while also raising Confederate flags and trying to disenfranchise minorities.
Notice they never say it was “conservatives” who did this good thing in the past. They always say “Republican” when talking about good things in the past, all while using “liberal” as a slur in the present.
