You probably got downvoted for saying that the thing that is necessary to exist in the world today without having to constantly deal with legal or systemic troubles related to homelessness is a good investment.
I doubt anyone was offended by you saying you get paid to take pictures of houses.
I’m guessing you have never had to deal with the dependency hell that is existing as a homeless person in a country like the US.
Did you know that if you don’t have an address in many states that you are unable to get a license or ID? Did you know that if you don’t have an ID you are ineligible to work in the United States? Did you know that you could try to establish your ID again by getting your birth certificate and SS mailed to you if only you had an address? Did you know that the advice to get a P.O. Box is only useful if you have two forms of Identification 1 photo, and 1 non-photo?
As someone who is queer and had to escape an abusive situation with my parents I am intimately familiar with the invisible pit falls that homelessness causes people and how the entire system has been designed to make you a 3rd class citizen, if you can even prove your citizenship at all.
We can look at this two ways, either you are wildly out of touch with your advice and don’t realize it when you saythings like “Actually it’s cheaper to own than rent, maybe ya’ll should talk to a mortgage broker and start investing” as if it’s some new revelation none of us have thought about with the millions of dollars of advertising telling us to take on a credit pull and try getting a mortgage anyway because “you never know” and how “rocket mortgage makes it easier than ever” or we can say that everyone else is out of touch because they just didn’t think to even TRY.
The first option offers no harm or harsh judgement to anyone, the second option has you as some sole arbiter of financial understanding while everyone else is just too incompetent to talk to a banker or apply for a loan and would rather squander their money trying to survive instead of building equity.
I figured you would appreciate understanding why what you said took a hit, especially considering your “looks like Reddit finally moved in” deflection taking the blame from you, and putting it on some brain dead hive mind to save ego.
Please don’t take this as an attack. I do appreciate the thoughtful response from you.
I didn’t imply people were incompetent, I just said in as few words as possible that they lack the skills or experience to do what I did, and I’ll point them in the right direction by giving them the literal baby’s first step of go talk to a banker just in case they hadn’t thought of that yet.
Sure…
Incompetent: not having or showing the necessary skills to do something successfully.
Anyway, as much as I’d like to split hairs over the difference between an implication and a subtextual inference I don’t think there is any value in this continuing.
I get what you’re saying. But a lot of people are so used to the “depends where you live” reasoning because it’s obvious.
Housing should be affordable regardless of where you live. But for most people it’s not gonna happen unless you move. People should be able to afford a home where they grew up :(
I’m 30 and paid 99¢ for a ringtone in 2005. Most 30 year olds cannot own property.

Yeah house prices have raised dramatically in the past 10 years

Great investment. That’s the problem.

I hope you have a good Friday.
