I am not worth a future but this is…
Yeah but oil mega corporatists have protected you from the Muslims and communists by… aligning with the oil based Arab billionaires and Russian billionaires.
Gosh I feel so much safer around all these Christian Extremists!
I’d pay a MILLION Dollars a Gallon if it Means Billionaires can get MORE MONEY!
-People with “Trump = Lower Prices” Signs!
"As long as he lets us be openly racists, sexists, misogynists, nazis, and all around deplorable people, he can rob us blind.
USA! USA! USA!"
-his entire base
“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
-LBJ
I don’t think he intended that to be taken as advice…
And they’ll do it again just to make sure the brown people get subjugated out of the working class.
Ahh to be a logically voting, Prius driving, American.
Thoughts and prayers, or whatever.
Prius use gasoline … you are suspiciously avoiding the obvious solution.
Tbf it is the PHEV and I only drive 4 miles to work.
BYD would be my full EV choice, but you know, American *“free trade market™️”
*free trade not subject to actually being free
BYD would be my full EV choice, but you know, American *“free trade market
Saw a BYD in the wild a few months ago. Mexican family had driven it up into Texas on family road trip.
I got to see the interior. All the extra features. Drives like a dream. It blows out Tesla’s back walls.
They’ll never let you buy one in the states
I figured lol. We’ll get an Amazon version.
I hope next president isn’t an ass hole and lets this into the country for sale
Democrats are, if it’s even possible, more beholden to the domestic auto industry than Republicans.
We are never getting a president who will let Chinese EVs into the US.
I was talking to my dad about this, not only is it tons of jobs that the automakers provide, during war time and other extreme times such as covid, automakers can transition to making other things such as ventilators at a rapid pace.
Manufacturing capacity at a domestic level is great.
But when you consider what they’re manufacturing? If it’s all gas guzzling super trucks during a petroleum shortage? Who benefits?
The option to be fully electric is an obvious improvement over any ICE-only car.
LOL - downvoters don’t want you to have the option, they’d rather force you to burn gasoline. 🤣
My bike is powered by the bread roll I made for lunch
How can I help you? Would you likes ideas on how to do even better? Validation? Something else?
Would you likes ideas
If you know some types of chutney that go well with sourdough rolls I might give it a try. Recently started mixing ground oats in with the bread flour too.
You are spectacularly deficient in searching skills. The title of this chat shows no hint that anyone here would have such information for you. But it is in fact ok for a man to ask for directions so don’t give up. I’m sure you’ll find your way.
You aren’t very good at trolling. Try harder next time.
No Matter Who Wins, We Lose
25 years ago, the cheapest gas I bough was $1.05 / gallon. I’m having a hard time thinking of any common products that cost less than 4x as much today.
Up until trump’s tariffs, the distraction war, and the DoJ being favorable to tech bros… I would have said RAM.
On a 25 year timescale that is still true. For now at least.
Solar panels and rechargable batteries (when you consider the production/storage, and not just the cost of a panel or battery)
I’m not saying the commentary on inflation is wrong, but I think it is interesting where we are seeing price increases, vs price decreases.
I don’t see Trump telling big oil to sell gas at cost for the foreseeable future so I guess he is fine with the American consumer footing the bill of his war.
He’s always been fine with it.
The rich already have money, they want stuff now. Sure, spend a few million more afford their lifestyles, but they’re fucking billionaires. Meanwhile, everyday people are selling their houses and going back to renting to get by, or their farm goes under and they have to sell. We sell our shit to survive, and the rich buy it up because they are the only people with expendable income. Trump and his cronies found out during the pandemic that harsh times are really good for the ultra-wealthy. The affordability crisis is a bonus feature of his Epstein-files-distraction war.
Yeah he said “we’re making a lot of money”. And by “we” he means him and his cronies
He doesn’t give a shit. He’s insulated enough, and he got the votes he wanted in the transaction. Americans can pound sand with this guy.
And during his recent pump and dump scams he now has a lot of ownership shares and all that profit is flowing in abundance to
allone the american people. The people keep voting for the wealthy to get even richer, and regression for the majority, stupid choices from stupid people so it won’t change.
With the Iraq war they had to come up with all these bullshit excuses and spend a ton of time and effort pushing the propaganda to the public. In a strange way it’s actually better this time that they just said yeah, this war is about oil, look how much money we are making because fuck you, that’s why.
And the thing is… It is not about expanding supply, it is about restricting it.
Don’t worry, its due to trickle down any time now.
Also, it’s Biden’s fault.
You’re thinking what I’m thinking: what the hell happened do those 18B?!
I assume what happened was costs went up $18B, but they charged an extra $130B because they knew they could get away with it.
That’s why energy companies don’t go green energy that much. There’s not enough chances for greedflation.
Sure there is. My electric company is primarily remewables and somehow the rates just increased again! After doing the same thing for the last several years in a row! My electric bill is now nearly double what it was 6-7 years ago.
What they do is say “due to increased demand” (which doesn’t exist unless you count overproduction that goes to other places).
Lying is just good business, especially of it’s only a lie technically!
I pay for 100% renewable generation. Sometimes the supplier makes so much electricity that the price occasionally goes negative. The consumer will never see the benefits of that while the coal plant subsidies exist. 100% solar is priced the same as coal, since that is the competitor/alternative to get electricity (free market baby! What is a utility but a legalized monopoly anyway?), plus a subsidy to keep the coal plant in operation. Without the need to pay the subsidy, the pricing factors change, green energy is now competing against each other, instead of carrying the load of outdated, inefficient and toxic coal plants.
Yeah, they used to leverage the barriers to entry into the generation market (before solar and wind, when only those with lots of $$$ could set up power generation facilities because the most efficient ones were big and very expensive ) to extract more money from customers, now they leverage the barriers to entry into the distribution market as well as the dominant market position left over from those before times.
Theoretically the barriers to entry into the electricity distribution markets are lower hence with time more competition will arise, but that’s dependent on the laws passed by politicians to liberalize that market and politicians nowadays are very corrupt and design laws to benefit those who “reciprocate” their “friendly” consideration for their interests (and the most common way of doing so without being obvious is literally to thinker with those law to have artificial barriers to entry in the market thus protecting the market dominance of existing big market players)
The classic oil price goes up, gas price shoots up the next day and slowly floats down over weeks gives in general a higher margin and that’s what they’re going for.
And then they release statements saying greedflation isn’t real and that inflation is driven purely by consumer demand 🙄 please…
Probably it’s the additional costs of having to ship some of the oil from further away and having to exploit more costly oil reserves (such as lower yield fracking oil reserves in the US).
Higher oil prices make alternative oil sources (fracking, tar sands) viable, but they weren’t viable before with lower oil prices exactly because they’re more costly.
Spent on the higher oil prices.
Maybe they’re investing in new gas price signs that can display another digit
No I’m not because that would be pretty obvious… increased costs.
But, it’s also just a shittily written article.
Americans have paid $148B more during the measured period than last year.
Oil companies have made $130B in total profits over the same time period.
The critical bit left out is that last year they made $47B in profits over the same period. So, oil companies have made $83B more in profits than last year.
So Americans have paid $148B more while oil companies have made $83B more. The costs to the oil companies have increased by $65B.
First, the article is poorly written, making it difficult to understand what is being compared and the true magnitude of change.
This article isn’t claiming Americans spent $148B in total. It says they paid $148B MORE during the eight months of the Iran War. The total amount spent by Americans during that period is substantially higher than $148B.
They then state the petroleum industry profited a total $130B between April and September, a six month period which omits two months of the Iran War.
I bet they were used to make transgender toilets! SO UNFAIR
Wait so does that mean that the true cost only went up by 18 billion.
In a similar vain, demand based pricing makes no sense in a situation like this, a tax does.
When something becomes scarce, it doesn’t increase its cost of production, it just needs to decrease consumption. They do that via a price increase to dissuade demand but pocket the difference.
What makes far more sense is a tax, similar to the carbon tax, that can go up and down based on limited supply or not. It can still reduce demand but the difference is that the extra money spent gets returned to the people.
I still don’t get why people hated the carbon tax so much.
A global crude oil scarcity tax would be a nightmare to implement.
It would be easier to actually tax all that extra profit in a meaningful way.
Not necessarily, that can be local v total final global sales. But yeah the price goes up which doesn’t reflect how’s much the actual cost of getting the gasoline for today specific places was so the oil company just makes more profit.
Murder money.
Fuckers could have nationalized solar electric decades ago and all those civilians would still be alive and the oil barons would be de-powered.
Murikkkans, lolololololololololololololol!
