“When feminist filmmaker Cassie Jaye sets out to document the mysterious and polarizing world of the Men’s Rights Movement, she begins to question her own beliefs. Jaye had only heard about the Men’s Rights Movement as being a misogynist hate-group aiming to turn back the clock on women’s rights, but when she spends a year filming the leaders and followers within the movement, she learns the various ways men are disadvantaged and discriminated against.”

My dad once gave me this movie as homework. It not very good, I told him as much.

So, my dad was absent during my early years. When my mother, and he, divorced he suddenly wanted equal, if not total access. I timed stamped a little piece of the movie calling just such a man out, and sent him to it. Did he engage with that point? Nah, just went on to assert his next line of nonsense.

Anyway, here’s a better line of critique than I can write

The thing about misandry is that like 80% of it is stuff men need to help each other with. They barely listen to women to begin with, they’re not going to suddenly start when women tell them it’s important to express their emotions and talk about their feelings (I’ve tried). Men need to build their own mental health movements by working on themselves using the research / evidence based practices that already exist then model healthy behavior for other men and grow that movement from there. Men’s mental health isn’t going to start with dumping more of their emotions on women because having a romantic relationship be the only way they’re comfortable with emotional intimacy was the problem to begin with. But redpill just wants women to fix it and blames them when they don’t.

More vague criticism…which aspect of civil rights do you find “bullshit” or “cherry picking”?

So you just found out about rape this month because it occurred at Cornell and as a result think nobody should have civil rights. Edgy! What’s your justification there?
