There have been holes found in neolithic caves with what appears to be beer yeast. The only organism we’ve been that symbiotic with longer is dogs.
I love genuine questions and people putting in the effort to love and understand each other better. If you come at me just wanting to argue I’m going to troll you back. FAFO.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You find yourself teleported onto the stage of a TED talk right NOW with a large audience. What topic do you speak about?
3·2 days ago- Everybody’s violent, the question is where and how sensitive the button is.
- Sardines
- Standup black comedy
- What I do should be considered ICU level care
- We’d need less ICU level behavioral care if we put people in houses and gave them food

5·3 days ago10 years of experiential observations on why people are violent in institutional environments.
I also think it’s the thing the Buddha said. It was very well stated and made a lot of sense. You should go read about it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do I sometimes have to yawn, but it didn't feel complete and I need to yawn again a few seconds later?
4·4 days agoI mean it could be something else, but that thing they’re describing where they have to work their jaw and do it again and again until some arbitrary sense in their body decides they finally did it right… It’s just too familiar. Like they’re describing EXACTLY the same sensation. That is EXACTLY how I would describe the feeling. And that’s what fixed it for me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do I sometimes have to yawn, but it didn't feel complete and I need to yawn again a few seconds later?
71·4 days agoIt’s called air hunger and is a mild form of shortness of breath and I get it constantly. (Edit to add: I know EXACTLY what you mean by the jaw thing and that arbitrary bodily sensation of “u did it wrong tho do it again :( but right this time…” and then it keeps going and going and going until you finally manage to breathe in right somehow.)
- get a medical checkup just to make sure nothing is actually wrong with your lungs, but especially have your iron levels checked
- CUT BACK ON YOUR CAFFEINE AND OTHER STIMULANT USAGE (nicotine is another common stimulant)
- it can also be due to anxiety (which is why you wanna cut the stims) so reduce your lifestyle stressors where possible, seek psychiatric treatment otherwise
Not a doctor but I am an RN (but still not your RN).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•[Serious] What is the expected result of kicking out and rejecting all immigrants?
3·5 days agoOh yeah. If we made it so the immigrants faced 0 direct consequences but hiring them illegally had ruinous fines AND jail time, wages for natural born citizens would increase dramatically. A huge amount of “illegal immigration” is just diet human trafficking. Even the legal ones are sketchy sometimes, I meet so many international nurses who get hired into my specialty with 0 preparation for how dangerous American psych patients can get + how bad the working and living conditions are gonna be for them and the patients, but they can’t get out of their contracts.
Maybe for you. Mine was a mess…

Oh yeah white (+other) trash spectacle content was a thing on TLC and other daytime TV looong before internet influencers were big.
Oh the explanation is just that it’s a form of “benevolent” sexism that has its roots in one of the deeper layers of old-school misogyny. It basically goes like this: “women are smarter and trickier than men and use all that intelligence to seduce and lie to honest hardworking men and cause them to sin.” In that school of thought it’s how Eve brought down Adam and Delilah brought down Samson. It also provides a convenient excuse to publicly execute that weird old woman on the edge of town (who coincidentally inherited a bunch of land from her dead husband). Clearly she got all that land from her conniving woman tricks and is now using that secret evil knowledge to keep it from honest God-fearing men. It’s also why you can just ignore your wife when she asks for help with the baby or household chores, or to be reassured about the relationship. She’s just using her secret woman tricks to control you, don’t fall for it!
Unironically yeah. There’s more ways for a girl to pick up a restrictive eating disorder (family pressure, wider social pressure, more sports that care about weight like gymnastics and dance) but men can absolutely still get one and this is the most common way. And I really should have specified restrictive because binge eating disorder is pretty common in both sexes. Although orthorexia is also kinda coming into vogue for both sexes.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most horrifying thing someone in your care has eaten?
4·6 days agoPatient - their own vomit. They ate so fast they puked then just kept re-eating it. Had to be dragged away. Mentioned this in a VtM group that thought they were edgy. They were like “well you can’t eat anything that’s not blood or you’ll puke it up” and I was like “but I can just keep re-eating the puke right?” You could hear a pin drop in that chat.
Also lots of weird day-old congealed milk in juice mixers. See that one a lot actually. They scream at you for clearing out their room but you have to do it to keep them from poisoning themselves or getting weird infections.
Oh hey that’s the main way men get eating disorders!

🟩🟩🟩🟩I’ve been bombing these so this actually feels pretty good! Gonna go brag to my husband now…
they’ll also cover a rental and I can have a living room and a washer and depending on the type of stipend pocket the rest.
Also if you have no intention of staying in the city at all. If I take a 12 week contract it would be ridiculous to stay in a hotel for all 3 months.

2·7 days agoMy worry that I’m probably going to write into my AD next time I revise it is that they won’t anesthetize me enough to soothe whatever dregs are left of my brain into it’s good night.
