Could also include random things that could be pots even though you already have a shed full of 9cm’s

I’m very guilty of this myself, and all I do is a small window garden in my apt. I’m sure I have 20x unused pots laying around vs used. XD

And if you need one you can check the nearest graveyard. People tend to show up with flowers, plant them, and then throw away the pots. I could literally get several dozen plastic flower pots from the trash cans at my local graveyard whenever I want. There’s not even anything besides flower pots and soil bags in there.

I’m not much of a gardener but I do have a frugal girlfriend who loves gardening.

What I can say is that sansevieria make decent gifts for people who are bad at plants; they don’t really care much about getting too much or too little water or light. So they’re great for people who forget to water their plants three weeks in a row and then water daily for a week because they keep forgetting they just watered the day before. (I’m speaking from first-hand experience here…)

      Practical origami, very nice!

Interesting how he’s not just using them for a temp purpose, but seemingly using a bunch of them to grow parsnip seedlings. Would newspaper really stand up to repeated waterings, though?

Paper doesn’t degrade nearly as fast as you’d think, especially if its just damp and you aren’t putting pressure on it causing it to tear.

I used to use single sheets of newspaper to line my veg garden as weed barrier and they lasted an entire season no problem. I stopped because it’s hard to get newspaper now, and I don’t want to use colored ink pages.

Thanks for explaining. I still see newspaper in the supermarket.

Sadly, that reminds me that the bi-weekly, independent ‘current happenings’-type paper disappeared around 10yrs ago. And this is a major Midwestern city, where it used to be quite popular.

Lemmy is listening to our recent Amazon purchases.

      .

I thought I needed 3 little ones. It turned out we needed like 20. So a little better.

I take them back to the garden center where they supposedly get reused. Broken terracotta ones get put around my garden as they make awesome spider and lizard homes. Just, like… Don’t fall on them.

The eagles don’t meddle in the trivial doings of mortals. And they don’t collect your garbage.

But Bilbo could at least stack them like a sane hobbit.

They did when Gandalf asked them to. All we’re talking about is a different flight plan.

I keep all kinds of stuff that I use as planters. Goes in a box in the storage building out back.

Pick up a sprouted herb for a couple bucks at a hardware store, plant it in one of the pots, and give it to a friend. ^_^ (or grow one from a cutting if you can)

It’s not that rational of a position. I mainly just think that plastic looks and feels tacky as hell.

I mean, I am also trying to reduce plastic items in my household in general, because it’s just less potential sources of microplastics, but I have no idea, if these pots would even give off any microplastics. They don’t typically get abraded, at least.

I guess, on the flipside though, non-plastic pots can be good for plants. For example, if you have a plant which struggles in moist soil, then a terracotta pot can help to move that moisture out.

They’ll certainly shed microplastics, but it’s not really a household environmental source concern. The main pathway is through eating or drinking, so if you had edible plants in plastic pots then maybe. But it’s still not nearly as much as plastic food containers, especially if you’re using them for prep, or the worst, reheating food in the microwave in plastic.

          Okay, I see.

          terrecotta pot

Yeah, I probably need to do that with a couple Jade cuttings I just bought, as I understand that residual moisture in the root area is bad news for them. Also, I evidently need to swap out the soil with a courser mix, possibly even just small pebbles.
