I once read that an assistant caught the guitar, and when he asked Prince what to do with it, he said “Give it to Oprah,” who was attending the show. He said he later spotted Oprah at the after party, holding it.

Anyway tldr: nobody knows where the guitar went, even the drummer doesn’t know and he was on stage.
I remember a friend telling me how Prince could absolutely shred on guitar. As someone who didn’t really listen to Prince, I was skeptical. My friend showed me this performance.
Topical, but his half time show in 2007 is pure legend.
Apprently there was a roadie off stage who had to physically hold a giant power cable together through the whole show because it failed minutes before the start, and wouldnt stay connected on its own.
Imagine being that guy, watching this happen 20 yards away, rain slamming down, knowing you held something of legend in your hands.
Before the show, with the rain POURING down, one of the organizers apologized for the weather, and Prince said “Can you make it rain harder?”
Then he went out and used that rain to make his set, ending with the iconic performance of Purple Rain, even more dramatic.
Such a fantastic performance.
