I hammer keyboards. You always hear me. Those Dell super quiet chicklet keyboards just make me pound harder. I get noise out of it regardless of mfg intent.
I’ve always been a hard typist, but back in the early 90’s I used to hit the ASU computer junk shop. I got addicted to the original old IBM buckle-spring keyboards. I would buy them for pennies, run em through the dishwasher, let em bake in the Phx AZ sun, and the ones that survived started the torture test on my desk. I would eventually dump too many beers into it, and it would die.
So, these precious objects, vintage IBM buckle-spring keyboards were essentially disposable to me. Until I couldn’t get them anymore. Then I found Unicomp.
Unicomp bought all the plans and gear and rights to make the keyboard from IBM. Unicomp IS the original IBM buckle-spring.
Of their lineup, the Unicomp Model M is the legend. Six pounds, baby. It’s solid. This keyboard is the exact same as my old disposable … well, with USB!
Ya, looks like they run $200 now.
This now dead soldier lasted me 2 jobs and at least 10 years.
Absolutely worth it.
