I can’t tell you how many times I had ended up with little to no blankets after sleeping 4 four hours. Eventually, spouse and I decided that we would get two full-size blankets for the bed so that we could each have one. This has prevented so many restless nights.
Oh yes, we do that too. We both have a 2x2 m duvet. He comes on my side and gets warm( he is the one with cold feet and hands in the family) and gets sleepy while I play with his hair, and then slides under his cover to sleep. I like to „cocoon“ myself sometimes and I also sleep like a frog with my legs flexed. And if one of us snores too badly or has a cold, one of us sleeps on the sofa in the living room, which I built especially because I wanted to use a mattress there, so it is comfy for sleeping.
We did find once in France a big bad with a very big duvet on top, we could sleep comfortably under that single one without touching even if we wanted.
A good night sleep is essential for the happiness of the marriage and the rest of life. There is no shame in making it work for you. I heard some say 2 sinks are essential, but in our case I think 2 toilets would be great.
I’d have murdered someone years ago if I shared my blanket with my husband. We have a king bed, but like to be at opposite sides for sleeping. And I like to pull the edge of the blanket under my chin. Which means I’m pulling it off him and leaving him annoyed. No no, we each have our own and can cuddle the blanket all we want. And I can hide cats under my blankets.
Next level: Separate bedrooms. Fight the social stigma that this would somehow mean there’s a problem in the relationship and accept that most people get better sleep when not next to someone else. Also helps sharing the sleep disruption when the kids are young and climb into the bed at night for whatever reasons.
Look at money man made of money with extra bedrooms just lying around full of money
We have started using the spare room whenever one of us has a cold, has a different schedule, or we have something important the next day. But for other nights the simple pleasure of waking up next to one another is worth a small dip in sleep quality.
I’m a really light sleeper and my lass snores like a diesel generator or something.
Two duvets definitely solved that issue, moving to sheets in summer as it gets too sweltering.
Two duvets, four pillows.
Not actually taken to moving to another room when the snoring is too much, I’m not working yet so it’s not like I have to be up for anything.
Maybe letting the rabbit out but that’s about it
Queen sized bed. King sized blankets.
Emperor sized pillows. Sovereign sized sheets.
In some countries, Germany, Sweden, etc., people have been doing this for a very long time. 1 bed 2 duvets.
My wife and I have been doing two single duvets on our queen bed after doing it at an Airbnb in Germany
Yep. I am Swedish and can confirm this. It’s mighty annoying when we’re traveling abroad and the hotel will only supply one blanket. My gf tends to roll around in her sleep and steal everything.
i only discovered this 10 years ago
i felt like i’d discovered dna or something
My partner and I do this as well. We like different textures in blankets anyway so we are way more comfy that way
this guy just deleted my comment for being weird, HYPOCRITE!
What the ever loving fuck are you on about? They aren’t a mod or an admin. They couldn’t have deleted your comment, whatever it was.
EDIT: Are you ok? Your last posts were 3 weeks ago and… properly typed. Your most recent ones are very much different. Maybe take a break or something.
Yes I can confirm it works. Source: am currently in king size bed in my own 10tog single duvet whilst my husband is snoring away in his 13tog duvet. It’s also great that you get to pick the warmth of your bedding !
Been doing this for 15ish years. Spouse likes to burrito, I toss and turn. And due to that I need a queen blanket so it doesn’t matter which edge is up. With a full I’ve got a 50 50 chance of ending up with the long side around my shoulders and my feet in the breeze.
Not to one-up, but we went with two blankets, along with two beds and two rooms. Never looked back. Game-changer if you’ve got the space.
I’ve always had an issue sleeping next to someone unless it was on accident. Like, falling asleep on the couch for example. But I can’t do it on purpose. A mix of not being able to get comfortable and what I can only describe as being self conscious about how I sleep make it nearly impossible. Also, I move in my sleep. Having someone else in the bed has always made things more complicated.
this echoes a lot of my behaviors.
I’ve never really gotten over it. I think I get some sleep just because I’m usually exhausted.
are we doomed?
I think it’s perfectly reasonable to sleep in separate beds. Just because you don’t sleep next to them doesn’t mean you don’t enjoy their company. Whenever my girlfriend would come over I’d wait until she fell asleep and then go sleep on the couch. It was an understanding we had. She fell asleep better with someone there and I fell asleep better by myself.
This has been spoken about a lot in our household and I wish the day would come sooner. Sadly I doubt we will have the money to afford anywhere with more space anytime soon so I’ll be sleeping like shit until then. Sleeping in the same bed as someone else is over rated!
Nothing wrong with 1950s-sitcom-style double beds with a shared nightstand if you are short on space. You spend a third of your life in a bed; best to be happy there.
I agree however you over estimate how much space we have and that isn’t a viable option either unfortunately.
Roger. Suppose a bunkbed’s out of the question? Hammocks?
In any case, here’s to your future abundance!
Haha I think bunkbeds might be a tough sell xD I’m also 191cm tall and they usually have bars around the head and foot which makes for even more uncomfortable sleeping than being next to someone.
I’ll just look forward to the possibilities of the future! Enjoy your setup :p
3 full/queen sized blankets in one twin sized bed with a single person can also be convenient.
I second this!
I run hot, half the time I just use the sheet.
