Trump Stole Bernie’s Working-Class Story. Dems Should Steal It Back. - eviltoast

Summary

Following Donald Trump’s election win, Sen. Bernie Sanders’ approach to economic populism is being highlighted as a possible path forward for Democrats to regain working-class support.

Sanders’ longstanding message, which targets billionaires, corporate corruption, and economic inequality, offers a clear counter-narrative to Trump’s scapegoating of marginalized groups.

His approach appeals to voters feeling economically alienated, much like Trump’s message did in this election.

Democrats are urged to embrace Sanders’ style of anti-establishment, class-focused politics to rebuild trust with working-class voters, prioritize new leadership, and counter Republican extremism effectively.

Too late for him now. He could assemble progressives under him tho, make a “new” party that caucuses with the dems, like Bernie has done forever, and as they build up members that get elected they will slowly get more power and influence over the dems hopefully pushing them left. Look at the “Freedom Caucus” how they were able to cause so much chaos with 10 or so members, imagine that being used for good instead. Just a thought.

Oh, Bernie should have done this in '16

    Dems Should Steal It Back.

Or you know, Bernie should just have it and everyone should stop stealing it. I mean I’m as liberal as they come, but c’mon Democrats, stop stealing Bernie’s shit and leaving him behind and just listen to what Senator Sanders is telling you will actually win Americans.

I mean, I get it, I’m bummed about Trump, but shit, PLEASE LEARN SOMETHING THIS CYCLE DNC!! I mean there’s a ton of reasons for why Trump won, but holy fuck, Democrats if you could run something just few nanometers short of the current level of insipid political rhetoric, that would be amazing.

I’ll still vote Democrat on the mid term, but c’mon drink a Red Bull or something.

They can’t and won’t learn. They’d rather have a fake controllable populist on the right than a progressive on the left they can’t control. The DNC has been serving nothing but corporate neocons since Clinton. They don’t fuckin learn. They need to be thoroughly ripped apart before things will get better.

I really don’t think the DNC should be considered a viable party anymore. I’m betting Sanders and other progressives are working on the foundations of a new one. If they are, and it works, I’m going to register for a political affiliation for the first time in almost a decade and a half.

“Take America back again” is a nice play on this sentiment.

      • From billionaires

      • From mega corporations

      • From generational wealth

      • From hedge funds

      • From venture capitalists

      • For kids and schools

      • For affordable and private (between you and your doctor) healthcare

      • For a living wage for everyone

      • For affordable housing

      • For you

Whatever lol. We’re not functionally going to even have a two-party state for the rest of my lifetime, if ever. This country never was for the people and it’s a little fucking late to try now.

Yes, we have one party here. But so does America. Except, with typical extravagance, they have two of them!

      -Julius Nyerere, 1982

The US has always had two parties that only serve capital and it’s interests.

Too little, too fucking late. The courts are gone for at least a generation, if the US survives. Positive political change is no longer possible thanks to those who gullible ~15mil.

didn’t trump have pretty much the same amount of votes as last time? like less than a full percent change? sounds to me like way fewer people voted, and/or their votes got burned in post box arson.

Trump may have gained some votes from the working class, but he didn’t steal anything from Bernie. What in that list of things in his message did Trump adopt?

Capitalist news likes to conflate progress and fascism under the term “populism” so they can smear progressives like Bernie by equating them to Trump.

To what end? It won’t change a Trump voter’s mind. It won’t keep a Democrat voting blue. We need to drop the territorial pissing and get back to actual fucking politics. Maybe we could win something if we fucking did anything. But no, that’s a good idea, we’ll just keep fighting pointless battles with the MAGA crowd, I’m sure that will pay off in dividends.
