There appears to be a serious problem with suspicious or spam accounts. Below are a few examples from just the last few weeks. This isn’t specific to just GoneWild, but to all of the NSFW communities:
Example #1: Issue with people posting pictures of people who are not themselves, or pictures of people without their consent.
- Yesterday I noticed a picture that I had already seen posted multiple times. I looked at the user’s post and noticed that it was their only post. This was weird since I 100% had seen that picture posted already. I posted a comment asking OP about this and multiple people responded saying that they also noticed this. Then the post was deleted/removed.
- One user told me that the user who had uploaded this pic before messaged him claiming that “my wife loves your dick” (supposedly the lady in the photo) and that they could message her on Telegram. Clearly this was suspicious and clearly the OP had not obtained consent from the woman in the photo.
Example #2: OnlyFans Bait
- By OnlyFans bait, I mean posts that are clearly designed to drive traffic to a user’s only fans. I will not post the username to avoid calling anyone out, however there is one user that posts pictures with a watermark on every single picture that says something like “USING FREE VERSION OF THIS IMAGE SOFTWARE GENERATES THIS WATERMARK.” My suspicion was that this was done intentionally to drive traffic to their OnlyFans page (in their profile there is a link to their OF page.) I suspect that this is designed to have people subscribe to their OnlyFans page in order to see pictures without the watermark. I asked OP why she uses this software with a watermark, vs. any others that don’t have this, and the post was deleted shortly after.
Example #3: Posts saying “first time poster” when they’re not.
- Similar to #1, people often post pictures with titles like “first time poster, tell me what you think” when I have clearly seen the image posted like 8 times under different accounts. Whenever this is called out, the post is usually deleted.
Example #4: Sympathy-bait titles
- By sympathy-bait titles, I mean titles purposely designed to generate “sympathy and compliments” from users. For example, many times there will be a beautiful fit woman who posts a picture and the title is something like “my boyfriend said I looked fat. What does Lemmy think?” I think these types of titles are clearly fake and unhelpful. I don’t think titles should be allowed like this and just contributes to the overall sketchy issues that these communities are facing.
Example #5: Posts without gender tags.
- This one is self explanatory. I see it all the time though. Sometimes I see a mod tell the OP to add a tag, sometimes I don’t. It really depends on the community. This rule should definitely be enforced more consistently.
Just curious if anything can or will be done to combat this type of bullcrap? It’s turning a lot of these communities into straight up spam. Is there any sort of verification system that can be used? I hate to use the R word (Reddit), but Reddit requires verification for NSFW subreddits I am pretty sure. Can something similar be done here? Posting nude pictures of people without consent is a serious issue and it’s asking for trouble if law enforcement gets involved. I have to assume that no one wants this to happen.
I hope this was acceptable to post here as I support the purpose of these communities and I don’t want to see them turn into a cesspool of sketchy posts and onlyfans bait.
Edit: sorry if this came off as bashing mods. I didn’t mean for it to be like that. Just wanted to make that clear. I highly doubt moderating a Lemmy community is easy, given the limited tools available.
Replying to your replies. I also upvoted your reply since I appreciate the candid conversation.
#1. Totally fair.
#2. I would agree but the fact that the post was deleted directly after I asked about it is extremely suspicious. I absolutely had no intent to shame someone for using a specific image editor. However the deletion of the post was weird. And my comment on her deleted post was not combative. I merely said i was curious why she used that image editor over others and that I wasn’t a photographer and I was unfamilar with different editors.
#3. I would agree however often times when you go to these users profiles, the post is their ONLY POST across any community, when everyone has clearly seen it posted before. This is suspicious.
You only had the 3 examples when I responded initially, but the other two that I see I also want to point out are almost always addressed by mods. It just takes time. Mods are people too and also volunteers - they aren’t online 100% of the time.
Gonna keep the numbering just so we can keep track of what I’m responding to.
#2 A lot of the Onlyfans accounts aren’t being posted by the women themselves. They are managed by external agencies posting on their behalf. It’s how the industry works now. They would almost always rather delete a post than deal with negative attention to their client. It’s really not that suspicious to me.
#3 This is a sex forum. People get cold feet and delete their accounts once the horny wears off all the time. The horny comes back and they make a new account. Yes some of these posts are phishing, but a lot of them are just people thinking with their horny brain and then regretting it later.
Just to add a follow-up, I feel like there should be a separate community for OnlyFans advertising, and that it should be kept separate from actual user communities. That’s just my opinion. I have no idea if people agree.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
My replies:
Agreed on your reply to my added examples. Sorry, I was still working on the post after I posted the initial 3. Appreciate you replying to those too. Totally agree. Just wanted to point it out.
#2. It seems kinda wack if we’re getting flooded with posts that are basically corporate Onlyfans posts in that case? Idk. It doesn’t sit well with me. I didn’t think that that’s what these communities should be about. It makes it seem like yet another corporatized space, which is what I thought Lemmy was trying to avoid. But if others disagree then I’ll concede.
#3. Yes definitely agreed, lol. It’s just extremely hard to tell if that’s the case, or if these are people posting women without consent, then deleting the posts when being called out. It’s just very suspicious to me.
Sure thing. I’ve been around for a very long time on the instance and the OF issue has been rehashed many times. I don’t enjoy OF myself either, I’m the type of person who despises being advertised to in general and the dynamic of paying for attention isn’t my cup of tea, but I accept that it’s necessary in the current landscape to ensure there is a constant stream of content. It’s a symbiotic relationship between professional and amateur posters. If there were no OC content being posted then there would be fewer users and the environment would be far more uncomfortable for amateur exhibitionists to post to. It would scare most people off and the ones that did would get less of the attention they want.
Individual communities can choose to allow advertising in various ways with their rules and overwhelmingly they decide to allow it. This is for a reason. As a prolific commenter around here I choose who I’ll engage with based on their behavior. If they spam or don’t engage with their content at all after posting and just want to drop it like a billboard and leave, then I also won’t engage with their content(which does ultimately affect the visibility of a post if enough people share the same opinion). If the behavior is bad enough, that’s why the block button exists. When you lump every content creator together you’re also doing a disservice to the ones that do it respectfully and well. Like everything in life, it’s a spectrum.
Thanks for your input. I appreciate you engaging with my post and I understand your perspective on the matter. No community will be perfect and everything you’re saying makes sense! I was just interested in other people’s opinions and wanted to share my view. So thx.
I wasn’t going to call out any specific post but here’s an obvious onlyfans bait example lol. Quite possibly THE example to use for this. This person’s posts across all the communities she posted in are getting downvoted so I have to assume I’m not the only one bothered by this.

Downvotes are disabled and not federated on Lemmynsfw. You will only see downvotes on posts that originate from your local instance.
I agree that this user’s posting behavior is in poor form, but she isn’t violating any of the community or instance guidelines on spam. She’s paying the price for her poor etiquette by having all of her posts perform poorly and she won’t receive the the advertising she desires by posting. I don’t see any problem with this and the system is working as intended.
Oh wow thank you for explaining that. I never understood how that works. So to confirm, if i see like 5 downvotes, that means that 5 users from my instance downvoted this? But anyone else from other instances who downvote it will be invisible to me?
What about upvotes? I’ll see those from everyone?
Yep, all of that is correct. In your example it would mean 5 users with eviltoast.org accounts downvoted the post. Barring any federation issues for various reasons the upvotes should be tallied to the correct total minus the handful of local downvotes you see, but other instances do not.
That makes sense, thx. And what is the purpose of not federating downvotes? Just to avoid downvote campaigns?
