“Barbarian” is mostly used to describe the inferiority of a country or people that are outside of the western world. Used by western and white supremacist to otherize the victims of our own Imperialist interest. It’s fitting that the word lives on today with the same use because the Roman empire did the same thing. The people throughout history that are called “Barbarians” are rarely the ones that live on to define their own society.

I’d say we are being significantly more exactly what we have always been. The primary difference is in the aesthetics.
