I got real pissed off the other year at a company that charges a lot for bespoke trash at the best of times, but sold a bunch of rainbow stuff with some proceeds going to queer charities. My problem was, the majority of folk interested in this paraphernalia are queer folk ourselves. So it’s a charity boost x swindle where they simultaneously:

• coerce us to donate to charities that support us, like expecting leukaemia patients to donate to Cancer Research, taking money from the very demographic that should be getting it;
• take boosted profits for themselves from the very community that should be supported with the money.

If they really wanted to show support in a non-extortionate capitalist way they could donate their own business money to Stonewall and discount, not overcharge, us.
