probably zoning laws. that’s a HUGE part of why we don’t just build more apartments in many places. it’s why people get so passionate about the “white flight” as it’s known and nimbyism. everyone wants to fix homelessness, but in any of the places that one could effectively build community housing it is illegal to make anything that provides housing to more than 1 or 2 families. the people that live there want homelessness to go away, but when it’s proposed to build low income housing nearby they freak out and say “poor people and drug addicts? they do crime. low income housing is cool, but not in my backyard”.
being poor in america has such a stigma that homeowners consistently vote to ban them from living nearby by banning apartments. to be perfectly honest, I’m just waiting for zoning laws to try and make these tiny homes illegal now that people are building them for the poor.

I’d say 50% of users can’t tell you what an operating system is. maybe more. and ya’ll expect those people to be able to CHOOSE a Linux distro and actually install it. no way. that’s way way too much to ask of the average end user.

it’s a very British conservatism. it’s about blood. the story has people constantly accusing Harry of having bad parentage; as his aunt says “bad blood will out”. a left leaning story would have shown that blood had nothing to do with it. Harry was not raised by his dead parents regardless of how good or bad they are. Harry knew trauma and abuse, then was given his values by Dumbledore and hagrid and lupin and his friends.
but that’s not what happened. in the end it’s not that blood and lineage doesn’t matter. it’s just that his parents were actually high class and wealthy. so Harry won because he had good blood and was the chosen one. he won because of the innate quality he was born with.
