I didn’t enjoy watching the netflix series. It’s true on technical aspect, it’s well done. Where there missed the mark, in my opinion, is the atmosphere and the character development. This is why the original anime is beloved, there isn’t much action going on in the anime for today’s standard. But the atmosphere, world building, trying to understand this solar-system-wide “far west” society, what happen to earth and what the characters have been through in there troubled pasts. The anime gives you the right amounts of hints to tickle you curiosity and let yourself imagine possibilities, theories… In one word, the writing of the netflix live action lacks the depth the anime offered.

I support this type of plans. It’s so much more pleasant to go through a city with greenery rather than try to squeeze your way between rows of cars…

I second Onshape. Fully web-based, works flawlessly in Linux+Firefox. Good performance. Free account available. Parametric design is easy to use and rather intuitive, although I have only created basic designs for 3D printing at home and I have done anything very advanced with it.

It all depends on the GPU. If it’s something integrated in the CPU it will probably not so better, if it’s a 2000$ dedicated GPU with 48GB of VRAM is will be very powerful for Neural Net computing. NPUs are most often implemented as small, low-power, embedded solutions. Their goal is not to compete with data centers or workstations, it’s to enable some basic “AI” features on portable devices. E.g: “smart” camera with object recognition to give you alerts.

Modern graphics cards pack a lot of functionality. Shading units, Ray tracing, video encoding/deciding. NPU is just the part needed to accelerat Neural nets.

Basically yes. They come with an NPU (Neural processing unit) which is hardware acceleration for matrix multiplications. It cannot do graphics. Slap whatever NPU into the chip, boom: AI laptop!
