The ability to have virtual desktops only on the primary screen

sigh. I guess. I think I just need to settle on the fact KDE is never going to allow dedicated virtual desktops per monitor. I really want to use Plasma but this is a deal breaker for me.

it’s already available? CachyOS for example switched to using it as the default like a month or two ago. It’s already out there.

bingo. And any companies that do make it out the other end of this will transition to subscriptions for their stuff. HP is already rolling this out for their laptops. The end goal is to stop people from owning stuff but pay a monthly subscription on it. and if you want to own a device outright, prepare to pay a premium.

I didn’t say it was constant. I only said every now and again on the free trial I’d get an ad. Maybe it’s because I only used it with Qutebrowser. I don’t know. but I know that sometimes I would get an ad on a video.

there’s no point. I tried the free trial of youtube premium cause i’m on Qutebrowser and the adblocking isn’t the greatest. even with Premium i’d still randomly get ads every now and then. IF i were paying for it I’d be pissed.

Now I circumvent this by just opening all the videos in MPV.

in my 40+ years being Canadian i’ve YET to meet another fellow canuck that enjoys or watches curling. never. and yet they’ll show the absolute shit out of it on TV here. I don’t get it. We even have god damn curling clubs everywhere and I STILL have yet to meet anyone that loves it and plays it.

It’s just so bizarre. finding a hockey fan or simply someone who has played hockey? sure no prob, we all played as kids. But curling? never. I don’t get it. I think it’s some Canadian conspiracy or something. Like for decades the Canadian government has been trying to push curling on us to make it popular or something and no one plays it. no one watches it. but you see it all the god damn time.

As someone who has to deal with LLMs/AI daily in my work in order to fix the messes they create, this tracks.

AI’s sole purpose is to provide you a positive solution. That’s it. Now that positive solution doesn’t even need to be accurate or even exist. It’s built to provide a positive “right” solution without taking the steps to get to that “right” solution thus the majority of the time that solution is going to be a hallucination.

you see it all the time. you can ask it something tech related and in order to get to that positive right solution it’ll hallucinate libraries that don’t exist, or programs that don’t even do what it claims they do. Because logically to the LLM this is the positive right solution WITHOUT utilizing any steps to confirm that this solution even exists.

So in the case of OPs post I can see it happening. They told the LLM they wanted analytics for 3 months and rather than take the steps to get to an accurate solution it ignored said steps and decided to provide positive solution.

Don’t use AI/LLMs for your day to day problem solving. you’re wasting your time. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc have all programmed these things to provide you with “positive” solutions so you’ll keep using them. they just hope you’re not savvy enough to call out their LLM’s when they’re clearly and frequently wrong.

KDE is good but please, for the love of god KDE devs, you need to realize that some people…a lot of people actually…use more than one monitor.

Whenever I use Plasma I feel like I spend more time getting my windows arranged correctly across both my monitors with different workspaces. if each monitor had it’s own set of virtual desktops then it would be the perfect DE.

with the amount of times Claude hallucinates solutions I wouldn’t trust it to write my grocery shopping list let alone national defense.

As someone who lives in Toronto they’re a god damn corrupt force that does jack all. it’s a damn weekly thing where you’ll read in the news ANOTHER Toronto cop on paid suspension for something. AND then it’s a yearly thing when the city budget comes up and surprise, surprise TPS asks for more money. And the beauty of it all is that city council isn’t even allowed to debate the amount. they can either say yes or no.

yeah I remember a year ago when they said the same. They keep moving the goal posts because they HOPE it’ll happen, but it’s not going to. LLM’s across the board, regardless of the company, have progressively become worse. They’ve sunk billions into something that simply isn’t improving and they either don’t know how to improve it or are just praying to whatever gods they believe in that it will some how magically get good.

There’s nothing left to feed these things. For example you can go to Claude right now and ask it something so painfully simple that there’s a strong chance it’ll hallucinate a solution. not even a strong chance, a guaranteed chance. Like I just asked it “With the Fish Shell how can I get cat <<EOF > notes.txt to work?” it didn’t know how. it presented 3 options all of which were wrong. It claimed I was using an older version of Fish that doesn’t support Heredocs. that’s not true. Fish doesn’t support Heredocs at all, period, and never has.

wait for the free trial, sign up with it using like a gift card that has a few cents on it or an empty paypal account. trial lasts like 2 weeks but you’ll get more than a month as they email you daily “we can’t charge your account, you’ll lose nitro in 3 weeks”

Repeat this every time they offer you a trial, which they will, without verifying that you’ve already had a free trial. I’ve had Nitro for months doing this and have never paid them a dime.

I loved the original Black & White way back in the day but I never really clicked with his other games, even Fable.

I just remember the mini documentary that Tech TV had on him that they would repeat over and over. and even way back then he was getting called out on his over promising for his games. like the original Fable was a fraction of what he promised it would be.
