Today I saw someone on my morning walk, he said hi, I said hi back, and then he reacted like I hadn’t responded and got pissed off at me (“I guess its NOT a good morning, then!”). Every single human interaction outside my intimate circle makes me feel horrible. This guy just chose not to hold up his part of the bargain. It’s like he chose to react badly, no matter what I actually did.

I think this is misguided and a bit too optimistic. Racist cops don’t become racist because of their lived experiences, they’re already racist when they take the job.

I said our grandparents used to treat each other and their peers well, by disagreeing with each other gracefully. There was no mention of abuse in my post at all. I wasn’t talking about my grandparents specifically, I was talking about “our” grandparents, collectively.

People want to feel good and don’t want to feel bad, and this isn’t a moral failing of any kind. I don’t think AI use is because of AI. I think people turn to AI because talking to other people is just so unpleasant. This is the result of human nature, not because of the devil or because of evil, not due to anything else you can condemn someone to Hell for.

Yeah, it certainly can be. It is possible to tactfully and gracefully disagree with someone without making them look or feel stupid, and without causing them to lose face. This is something our grandparents used to do for each other.
