Pravda News!@news.abolish.capital•New York Times Affirms Haaretz Report: Netanyahu Was Warned About Oct. 7English
1·1 month agoI guess technically all this is of interest for the historical record. And everybody likes a conspiracy, even as it would seem, a conspiracy of one (aka a secret). But shit the whole thing feels like desperately wanting to write and think about anything other than the ghastly criminal acts and motives which pervade israel.
Journalist Zaid Jilani declared that “Netanyahu not only has unleashed vicious crimes onto Palestinians, but he failed his own people.”
ugh

United States | News & Politics@midwest.social•Declassified CIA documents show clear warnings to presidents before 9/11
4·2 months agoThe documents, which amount to more than 100 pages, show a steady stream of alarming but imprecise intelligence reports that bin Laden was preparing to attack the United States, either on U.S. soil or at embassies and U.S. military bases abroad. Many of them were heavily redacted.
But the documents included no major new revelations, as previous inquiries by Congress and accounts by officials in government at the time had made clear that the intelligence agencies were aware of the growing threat from Al Qaeda.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something that 15 years ago looked like it would be a problem in the future, but didn't turn out to be?
1·2 months agoBut do you think it’s possible you contributed to a vibe or attitude amongst your peers that these things were not that cool? Or had otherwise indirect influence?
I’ve picketed businesses before and people completely avoid going anywhere near you. Even after we are gone, there is a bad taste on that business.
If it had been accepted with no opposition, do you think it would have been the same in the end?
Always analyze by myself and be skeptical of everything.
You’re saying all this with hindsight. Given the information that was (or would have been if you’d looked for it) available at the time, could you really have anticipated the outcome?

13·2 months agoMy friend told me there was a shit ton of work done to find and fix every instance if the bug, and they managed to do it, which is why things kept going smoothly.
I’ve also heard that in some places virtually nothing was done and no problems occurred anyway.

Individualized home ownership is not a good thing. We should own property collectively. Publicly-owned social housing counts “against” a statistic like this, as though it was equivalent to renting from a private landlord.
A lot of people can’t afford the costs of maintaining a home properly. Those place with >90% probably have a lot of ramshackle dwellings.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do your managers also believe accusations made against you before asking for your side of the story?
4·2 months agoNeither of the examples you are providing are ideal approaches, but personally I might prefer the first one. It kind of sounds like they are asking a question but badly. But it is possible to approach this kind of conversation way more tactfully. And to the advantage of the manager because people will be more comfortable and less defensive.
There are a million ways your scenario could happen. Another possibility is that the manager misunderstood something. My last boss was notorious for approaching people, very serious and grimly, with accusations of wrong doing. then when the worker would go ask the “accusor” it would turn out to have been some totally innocuous comment or like someone making a joke or mild social-type complaint or giving feedback on the workplace as a whole. And this included situations where multiple people were present and everyone agreed, so its not just someone lying to preserve the relationship. I was on both sides if the exchange myself. When i heard that i had made an “accusation” I had made I really had to think hard to figure out the grain of reality it was based upon. That’s just one example of what could have transpired.
As you may infer from that story, “accusations” were pretty commonplace. And it was overall a good job, just that manager didn’t know how to do their role. 2 in 4 years is a pretty good run.

Pravda News!@news.abolish.capital•UN reveals only three percent of Gaza's farmland remains usable
1·3 months agoHeadline should read “useable right now”.
- As of 24 June 2026, 4 091 ha of cropland, equivalent to 27.2 percent, were accessible. Of this, only 448 ha, or approximately 3.0 percent, were both accessible and undamaged, compared with 601 ha, or approximately 4.0 percent, in October 2025. This represents a decrease of 153 ha, or 25.5 percent, with the largest declines in available cropland recorded in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis.
But the total amount of damage is 90% cropland and 80% greenhouses.

The damage was all done 2+ years ago and the longer that passes the harder it will be to remediate. So think the article kind of buries the lede.

just think of anything that’s doing fine, there is a group for that.
but even if you pick something you don’t find evil, like say you have a great park near you, there is probably some group or another that keeps it that way. so even though it looks like a do-nothing job, they are doing something.
