  • Nice! I’ll be at seven years next month. Before that my calendar would have been all orange and red with the occasional black or yellow day sprinkled in and not a single green day to be found.

Quittung was probably the best decision I’ve ever made. Mainly because it was the first step to many more life improvements since. It’s never too late to change your life!

  • I watched it in German. Did they even bother to translate it?

Bully is definitely mainstream or at least was back then and, sure there are other jokes admittedly (that also weren’t very funny imo). I guess that part just left a particularly bad taste in my mouth. Seeing as Michael Herbig isn’t gay (afaik) it never sat right with me the way gay stereotypes were played for laughs by him. It’s just cheap and unimaginative. Of course humour and taste are subjective, but in my subjective opinion it’s just not funny at all.

  • My wife is pregnant right now so this is something I have read up on. All the information I found says that I cycling during pregnancy is fine, right up until the end. There are caveats though: if there are complications with the pregnancy consult your gynaecologist first (probably do that regardless), don’t cycle if there is a heightened risk of crashing (ie. when roads are slippery or balance is affected by changed centre of mass), maybe don’t go mountain biking or ride over cobbles on a road bike, don’t go too hard (keep heart rate below 115 to 145bpm) and wear a helmet.

Staying active during pregnancy is actually a good thing and can actually reduce the risk of premature birth.

If you want to ride a bike while pregnant I would talk to your doctor and take common sense precautions to reduce the risk of crashing. Stop if something feels off.

I can understand why people worry. When my wife rode her bike (she’s due in a few weeks and has stopped now) it stressed me out too. But as far as I can tell, the concerns are not really supported by evidence.

Disclaimer: I have no first hand experience with having a uterus and I’m not a doctor.

  • My point is that if you create the incentives for people to voluntarily choose a career in the military, then you don’t have to force people to serve against their will. And that includes making a society that people think is worth protecting, instead of one that just protects capital interests of the rich, while fucking over poor people, most of all the same young people that are being pushed into service. But it’s easier to just force them, I guess.

  • I used to be a heavy pot smoker (think daily habit, multiple joints a day, zero days off for years at a time). I usually just brought some with me. It’s really not that hard to get stuff across borders, especially when travelling by land. You’d have to get really unlucky to be searched. Sometimes I’d also just ask around at my destination. I’ve taken drugs on planes too a couple of times (one time hash hidden inside normal cigarettes and another time LSD and DMT in my hand luggage).

People really overestimate customs’ ability to find shit, at least when the amounts are small for personal use. I wouldn’t recommend it and absolutely would never do it travelling to someplace where you’d go to jail (or worse) if caught, but within Europe I never had issues. The only time I was ever caught was with a tiny amount of weed that I hadn’t bothered hiding when travelling by car from the Netherlands to Germany and that only resulted in it being confiscated and no actual charges.

All that being said, even a total degenerate like me was able to go a week or two without illegal drugs if I had to. Alcohol is available pretty much anywhere, so worst case I’d just drink.

  • One of the main ways you progress in the game is by obtaining blueprints and then finding the ingredients to craft them. But you also have to craft things like fuel, ammo, etc. and to repair things. It’s fun but can get tedious at times. Luckily the game lets you fine tune the experience at any time (it’s actually probably one of the games that does this best imo) and one of the options is free crafting which lets you craft ending immediately without finding the ingredients first. My rule of thumb was to mostly only use it to skip grinding for ingredients I’d found before but needed more of it finding them would be too annoying, but not to skip searching for stuff I hadn’t seen yet.

The game is worth it imo. There is lots of content and it goes on sale from time to time. And all the DLC is always free which is nice.
