I thought people would be happy here but Lemmy is basically identical to reddit- full of miserable weirdos who are perpetually negative about anything and everything.

Oh I’m well aware lol.

Progressives don’t have enough clout yet to choose the speaker. A lot of the people who just won new seats are conservative to moderate Democrats.
At this point I just want a fighter who’s going to go after maga. I’m pretty progressive but we need to be realistic about how Congress actually works.

Harris lost because of inflation and Biden deciding to run despite being senile. It’s extremely obvious when you notice that every single incumbent across the globe lost in 2024.
“They sucked ass and swallow” is the kind of trashy language I’d expect from a teenage magat. I’m getting tired of engaging with all the pathetic manchildren on this site, no wonder so many people think progressive redditors are insufferable people.

They will if you get off your butt and hold your Dem reps accountable instead of whining on Reddit.

Don’t forget Amy Acton whooping on rape enabler Ramaswamy. She’s also the first woman to govern Ohio.

Rankin is the judiciary guy and he’s already talking about issuing subpoenas.
Jeffries sucks but he isn’t the dictator of Congress.
Ok guy 👌
Let me know when your conspiracy theories come true. Until then I’ll be enjoying the win like a normal person.
Mike Johnson already announced that he won’t seek the minority leadership next year. There’s literally no whining about the election result being fake, even from Trump himself. The Republicans are conceding all over the country.
They lost. They aren’t going to do shit because they can’t do shit and they know it. You can’t execute a coup when the entire country resoundingly rejects you. It’s the same reason Orban and Vucic had to leave.
My buddy Hakeem Jefferies? Lmao yeah right.
I never said we should take our foot off the gas, I said they aren’t going to reverse the election results because guess what, they fucking can’t.
Mike Johnson just announced he isn’t even running for minority leader next year but you think they’re going to stop the new Congress from being seated? They’re conceding all over the place, is that what you’d do if you were going to rig the election?
You’re just another weirdo terminally online mfer who can’t admit that all your whining and agitating and pessimism was based on pure delusion, and you’re too cowardly to admit you were wrong.

Most of these people have the time to memorize 50 different celebrities and their backgrounds yet don’t even know who their senators are. We need to stop making excuses for them. Baseline political knowledge only takes about 2-3 minutes of your time per day, it isn’t that big of an ask.
Also a significant portion of GOP voters are just plain horrible people.

Nixon resigned due to corruption, and then who became president in 76? The economy stunk it up and Iran humiliated us in 1980, so then who became president? War goes bad and economy tanks in 2006, who got elected in 2008? Congress obstructs Obama for two years, who became president in 2016?
I think you’re proving my point, rather than refuting it. I’m not saying Americans have a long memory, I’m saying they’ve proven they don’t understand the role of Congress in our government and blame the head of state instead.
You can go back many decades and see the same pattern over and over again. Americans blame the president when things aren’t going well, and reelect the president when they think things are good. And it’s mainly but not exclusively tied to the economy.
I don’t see the economy improving with Trump in charge. It’ll likely get worse. The GOP can whine and cry about Congress all they want but that’s never worked in the past, and won’t work now. Americans expect the president to deliver and they’ve allowed Congress to concede large amounts of power to the WH for that reason over the decades.
I’m not making any argument about impeachment here (I’d rather harass the GOP with constant investigations), I’m simply saying the GOP doesn’t have a good way out of this situation. And I do think it’s going to be durable, because Trump is their biggest liability and he absolutely cannot stfu or stop doing impulsive, stupid stuff that grabs headlines and legitimately hurts voters.
If Trump kicks the bucket and Vance tones things down, that could change the landscape. But even then he’s not going to do all that much with a Dem Congress and many things like the medicaid cuts will hit hard under his watch.
Exactly. I’m just sick of people who refuse you admit they were wrong and instead double down on their cynical delusions.
They’re not going to do shit. They know they got destroyed and the people aren’t on their side. The fact that they conceded Texas already should tell you everything. It’s literally their most important state outside of Florida.
So sick of the relentless and irrational cynicism on this app.
BS. There were tons of comments claiming he was going to rig the vote, declare martial law, or deploy ice and you know it.

When something big like this happens it typically takes 2-3 days for the Nazi media to develop new talking points. Every now and then it takes longer, eg the January 6th attack took them a few months to fully rationalize.

It wasn’t conspiracy shit, asshat. The comment I replied to was acting like people commit murder-suicide attacks for logical reasons and such a thing couldn’t possibly happen. I pointed out that they can and do happen. And I even mentioned the ATC audio in my comment.
This whole thread is full of irrational morons who can’t read. Why can’t you just wait for the investigation before confidently declaring you know exactly what happened? I’m the only one here saying we don’t know, y’all are the ones pretending to be experts and spreading pet theories about it.

Americans didn’t give an eff about Nazis until the Nazis’ friends literally bombed us.

Corruption was the number 2 issue in most polls. The economy is always the top issue for Americans when the economy sucks but it should be somewhat heartening that corruption and concerns about democracy were also really high on the list
This is what I was going to say. I actually don’t care whether we impeach or not (unless we know we have the votes). But we do have a better chance now after a huge wave election. This is a big wakeup call to the GOP. their thugs in purple or purple leaning states are gonna be looking for ways to distance themselves from Trump
