Aussie Enviro@aussie.zone•They built 100 wind turbines in Tasmania before realizing they stood in the path of a critically endangered parrot
2·5 hours agoJust because we are supporters of renewable energy technologies, we shouldn’t pretend that they are perfect. No technology is and that is why we’re always improving and altering its usage as is happening with this project.
Wind turbines can and do kill flying animals, both birds and bats, though not in large numbers. That is why they have found overseas, for example, that painting one of the blades black helps animals to see the blades better and avoid getting killed.

1·18 hours agoSo the story is not over, and it is not a foregone funeral. A parrot the weight of a few coins has already done the impossible once, crossing an ocean and coming back from the brink. Whether it can also thread its way through a field of turning blades is the question now being written, one migration, and one paused turbine, at a time.
🤞 💚
Depends where you live 😆 . In any case, most snakes are shy and move away from people (for good reason) and will only bite if provoked accidentally or intentionally. We also have anti-venom in hospitals so deaths are pretty rare.
So why do you hate seeing posts like this? I’m coming up with some ideas but I reckon you’re going to surprise me.
Being a city girl I had no idea until I heard about the dangers of working with cattle when I came to a regional area. If you want to raise your eyebrows, this will give you som ideas: https://www.worksafe.qld.gov.au/safety-and-prevention/hazards/workplace-hazards/agriculture/cattle-handling
Our wildlife gets such a bad rap! 😆
Sure we have some bitey and stingy animals but the overall fatality rate is very, very low. Here are some figures (I couldn’t find any that were more up-to-date) from a quick search. Look at the animal that causes the most deaths. It’s one you no doubt have in your country too.

It didn’t come across that way to me but I can understand how it might be confused. A public enquiry just means that it is open to the general public. Perhaps they should have advertised it as an Independent Public Inquiry which is what it is. In any case, it’s an important initiative imv.

Australia@aussie.zone•Deadly H5 strain of bird flu has been confirmed in Australia — here's what it meansEnglish
8·4 days agoOngoing surveillance by Wildlife Health Australia will also play a critical role in the early detection of avian influenza in wild birds.
Wille says while the risks to the general population remain low, members of the public should report any sightings of sick or dead wild birds or marine mammals.
“It is very important that this is reported. Call the emergency animal disease hotline, 1800 675 888. It works in every state and territory in Australia.”
Wille urged the public not to touch any dead wildlife, “but definitely have a look and take some notes about what it is”.
“The reporting is the really critical part”.

21·6 days agoJust take the brick off on bin day. The cockies wouldn’t have enough time to create a mess unless the trucks come around in the afternoon. Why am I arguing? 😆 They’ve found a better solution.

1·6 days agoWouldn’t a brick on top of the lid be enough?
Anyway, people should also be doing the obvious: don’t waste food and don’t buy so much junk. This has been known for decades. If leftovers were consumed and food placed in bins was composted instead everyone would win.

1·6 days agoI already do that and have been doing so for decads. We need more people to do so.
Well ribbit can eff off. Imo it’s more important that we keep in mind what the article says:
Understand what is truly at stake. For decades Israel has acted in the settled expectation that it answers to no one, underwritten by the certainty that its Western friends would always look away.
That assumption is what is now on trial in Canberra. The moment a trusted ally follows the evidence wherever it leads, the spell breaks, and other capitals discover they can ask the question too. This is why the world is watching a story that began with a few small boats.
The era of impunity rested on a single belief. That no friend would ever break ranks. A friend just did.
Ad WE must not let up making sure our govt knows we are not forgetting that the assaults on the flotilla Australians are being investigated. We are and will demand answers.
You may well be right. At least a decade before Epstein’s name became household I remember reading that it was common practice for Israeli intelligence operatives to do exactly what you say.

Well, we’re seeing it here. Is that any reason not to hate it? Same post.
There are people out there who are so conditioned to hate snakes, spiders, etc that their first instinct is to kill them so changing the ‘role’ might help them to get some perspective. What is obvious to some is not obvious to all.
