We’ve had mourning doves nest in gutters and reusing old robin nests in thin trees. They never rebuilt in the gutter after removing the nest (it was empty) but they still used the feeder and bird bath every year until they started using an old robin nest. They like more open nesting areas so a deeper nesting box might be why you aren’t seeing them return.

To prevent people from stealing them. I’m pretty sure most places just have integrated LED fixtures nowadays.

2·15 days agoMust not be a lot of ground level new shoots for it to go dining up in a shrub like that, you can see the twig it was monching on pretty clearly in the second pic.
While doing genealogy research I found it quite common in rural norway in the 18th and 19th century for women to have a child every two years until their early to mid fifties. Sometimes they’d have as many as 18 children.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Someone put up a tent on their balcony to escape their heat-trapping apartment during the night.English
1·25 days agoBeat me to it, a lot of the apartments around here built prior to AC had these, but many have since been removed or enclosed into conditioned living space. All you’d need is a bug net on a balcony to recreate it, unless you sleep in the buff.

Something similar happened to me while playing catan at a friends place and it was pretty weird. One of the sublets we didn’t know very well had a new lady friend over ever month. The lady of the month walked into the kitchen in just panties and asked what we were playing. She obviously didn’t get the response she was hoping for and left with a disapointed look on her face. We all wondered if she was hoping to fluster a bunch of “virgin nerds” like some corney early 2000s movie in order to stroke her ego.

3·1 month agoFlock charges $350 per solar panel replacement , if you are in California it’d take a little less than 3 solar panels for it to reach a felony charge at $950. Again IANAL.

Technology@beehaw.org•Working class neighborhoods are resisting data centers at 5 times the rate of wealthy onesEnglish
3·2 months agoThere are nonprofits that help organize to prevent the exploitation/displacement of low income populations while higher income areas are left to self organize. It would also have been useful to track political affiliation of these neighborhoods since it could be a political divide instead. I think people in the the $133k-$250k would be more conservative and thus more pro data center.
As an aside: I wish people would quit using the term ‘working class’ to refer to income level, its such a fuzzy term. Using ‘low income’ and ‘high income’ makes more sense in this case as it better reflects what Geoff Holtzman is talking about and working class could be refering to employment type.

Lower left is a flight attendant seat and the door in the back is to the cockpit. Porter wallpaper is on the bulkhead likley between toilet and seating. Photo was likely taken without the subjects consent.

1·2 months agoMahindra and Kioti have both service manuals and parts available. I’ve seen some people online complain about issues with specific dealers and having to wait for some parts to be shipped from overseas but that isn’t specific to those brands. I’ve never owned either one so YMMV.

15·2 months agoGood to hear that there is a domestic option but Mahindra, of India, and Kioti, of South Korea, have been making owner repairable tractors for years.

Depends on how you frame it. For example: Handing out free food to school kids on its own doesn’t ‘fight back’ but the Black Panthers used the activity to garner wider community support and good will for their other efforts. Building trust and garnering public sympathies is necessary for effective community organizing.
